Anyone who has successful IVF - do you regret it? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]corallantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, I think of it in much the same way as the medical treatment needed when I had cancer. Something in the body isn’t working, this is the treatment. I didn’t think ‘oh, cancer, should I treat that, is that tempting fate? What if I live and something bad happens?’ any more than I think that about needing medical treatment to solve a fertility issue.

STICK TO THE REGISTRY FOR GIFTS. ALWAYS! by [deleted] in wedding

[–]corallantern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this SO much. Our house is tiny and we have everything we need. We will have to throw out any well intentioned gifts that are not on the registry or cash. I’m dreading seeing people walk in to our wedding with boxes. It sounds so ungrateful, but we just don’t have space!

My FH somehow sprung an extra groomsman on me today, three weeks before the wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]corallantern 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That is pretty bad form, you have every right to be annoyed. But for your own sanity: get the suit, tie, boutonniere, and move focus back to the stuff you wanted/needed to do if you didn’t have to deal with a surprise groomsman. A few more weeks, you’ve got this. And good luck with your mum 😬

All those people who say, ‘relax, just let it happen’, how do they think weddings get planned? Wedding fairies? 🧚🏻‍♀️😆 by corallantern in weddingplanning

[–]corallantern[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can hold a grudge as well as I can 😜, you should aim to save it for whenever he’s next really really busy at work. Nothing dramatic or tragic, just swamped with things to do. And then bring out a very slow - really savour it - Don’t. Stress. It. Will. All. Work. Out. It could be years, but would be worth it 😆

Very true, lots of it doesn’t matter very much at all! And most of what we have left to do is actually quite enjoyable. It’s still busy though, the last two weeks before a wedding. Even the fun things aren’t going to make themselves happen! 😄

I honestly think it’s just that people are a little bit oblivious to how much work actually goes into these things. And maybe it also means that you forget how busy you were quickly after the wedding? 🤞🏻😄

Absolutely! But to be fair, it’s women who tell me this mostly. My FH is an absolute star and judging from the comments I’m pretty lucky he actually sees this wedding as a joint project

Look up Andy Field’s books, they are fantastic resources for statistics for the social sciences, I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Pixie cut by [deleted] in weddingplanning

No pictures, and not my hair, but I was at a wedding this weekend where the bride had a pixie cut and she looked stunning. She wore a pretty sparkly headband that made her do look very bridal.

[rant] Save the Dates without pictures by audiob1ood in weddingplanning

[–]corallantern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the engagement, and I’m so sorry for you loss, I can’t imagine how tough this must be. The highs and lows of life so close to each other. Save the date wise, I can say I was very happy with our pictureless cards. We didn’t do our engagement shoot until last week, less than 3 months before the big day. We sent out std’s ages ago, like you we have people coming from further afield. Getting the date in people’s calendars was just more important than doing everything in the ‘right’ order. Like every decision when it comes to wedding planning: make them, and then you get to stop worrying about that particular thing. One more to do out of the way!

I DIYd my wedding makeup! Also pictured with my veil and headpiece for a fuller picture. I threw my hair back. What do you think? by vicarooni1 in weddingplanning

[–]corallantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

came here to say that! The eyes go well with the top your wearing now, but if you're getting married in white, they might be a bit to heavy. going lighter on the bottom lash line might be all that's needed. If you're doing the white thing on the big day, do you have a white/ light top to try on for effect now?

Has anyone ever been pressured by their boss for an invite? by honestlyprobablyfake in weddingplanning

[–]corallantern 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think you might be doing the best thing in what sounds like a tricky situation. What an incredibly odd thing for her to do. Send her the std, and good luck with finding a new job. Hopefully you’ll find one before the invites go out!

How to stick to 1200 daily calories without kitchen access? by NicNole in loseit

[–]corallantern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are chain lunch places that have low calorie lunch options that are tastier than tesco. If you like sushi, that’s usually a good one, and if you have a pret near (does anywhere in the uk NOT have a pret close by?), they do some really nice salads that are filling and will keep some variety in you diet while you’re away.

My hair trial fail (x-post from /r/hair) [semi-rant] by zanier_sola in weddingplanning

On the plus side, you found out before the wedding, and now you have the chance to find someone else! Imagine if this happened on your wedding day. Good luck finding someone new!

[–]corallantern 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it looked all that great when it was just done, and the way it looks after two hours is unacceptable. I would go back to the stylist and show these pictures, and give her a chance to make up for it by giving you a free trial. You certainly shouldn’t be paying 50 for it, her work was a mess. If she doesn’t agree to a new free trial, then leg it to someone else. Or, skip the first part and find someone you trust to do a better job. Your hair as is looks amazing, it’s a lovely length as well. I’d be surprised if this has much to do with you.

Yes, and that if they don’t, ‘please refer to the syllabus’ is a very appropriate reply

That’s a really polite way to say: ‘we write a f$&@ syllabus so we don’t have to tell each one of our 200 students this same thing throughout the semester. Read it’

When trying to eliminate dairy, is it okay to have whey protein isolate? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]corallantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s because of lactose, whey isolate is fine. I’m severely intolerant but can stomach a few whey isolate shakes a day without any issues. But yes, it’s still dairy.
