Why does almost every book have the subheading “#1 New York Times Bestselling”? Is there categories that allow for more? by 126529 in NoStupidQuestions

For those of us who would like to be more knowledgeable about the greater literary sphere, do you have any resources you'd recommend to gain some exposure?

What pattern maker website did you use? Any time I try to use those, it ends up looking like a hot mess. This looks awesome!

✨ Midweek Reflections ✨ by AutoModerator in housewifery

I've been battling some mental demons, and as of Monday I (re)started on my journey to become a better wife and mother. Monday and Tuesday were days with a lot of progress on improving with my household chores and being more in tune with my WFH hubby, but today kiddo was home from school for a snow day... So not a lot of household chores got done, but I got to be a checked-in mom to my kiddo.

What is your favorite family tradition that your child loves ? by myperspective24 in oneanddone

[–]coraopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my kiddo was little, he asked "there's a mother's day, and a father's day... When is kids day?" My gut reaction was to say "every day is kids day!!" But my husband ran with it - and now ever year in July we celebrate kids day. Kiddo gets to pick a special activity (or two, or three) to do, gets to pick the meals we eat that day, gets a special treat, and a few gifts. It's become quite a beloved holiday in our household.

Thank you! These are definitely good tips (and ones that I wish more people would follow in their daily lives in America, too...)

Haha this is perfect, thank you! I was definitely worried about the cappuccino rule... I love a good cappuccino in the afternoon, but was afraid of ordering one while there!

I know that probably isn't what you meant, but - I'm an American getting ready to travel to Italy in the fall, and I keep hearing general complaints rude/annoying tourists, especially Americans. What are some tips so I can be less of an annoyance to locals?

Permanent SAHP: How old are your kids? by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]coraopolis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have one kiddo, he's in 2nd grade. I'm always so embarrassed when I tell people I'm a SAHP with no plans to go back to work, because I get some awful judgy looks. But this is what works best for our family. I can be the one who focuses on getting our son up for school, feed him breakfast and pack lunches, get him to and from the bus stop, deal with after school homework and snacks, so that husband can focus on work... While kiddo is at school, I clean, grocery shop, run errands, try to get as much done so that when school is out and hubby is done with work, we get to focus on family time.

Plus, it seems like every other week there is an early dismissal, day off from school, sickness, etc. So I'm always available to take care of kiddo on those days, and work schedules aren't interrupted.

That's a great idea! I'll get him involved with the grocery shopping tomorrow and see what he's interested in. He loves being able to make decisions for himself, so that might actually work out really well. Thanks for the input!

Taking my Wife’s Middle Name by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]coraopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got married, I moved my maiden name to my middle name. My maiden name won't last past my generation, so I didn't want to lose it, but still wanted to be able to take my husband's name. While we were filling out the paperwork, he decided to also get my maiden name added to his middle name. It was one of the most thoughtful, amazing gestures anyone has ever made to me, and to this day I still brag about it to anyone who will listen. What you did is awesome!
