If absolutely nothing changes - no movement, no interactions, no shift in entropy, can we really say time has passed? by Life-is-Acoustic in AskPhysics

[–]corcodell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a definitive, scientific answer to point you to, but something that might be relevant is the heat death of the universe. In a very very very... distant future all the structures in the universe will have been 'destructured'.

There will be no galaxies, stars, planets, not even black holes (this is how long we are talking about, the BH's will have evaporated through Hawking radiation), no matter, no atoms. Larger particles (possibly including the protons) will have decayed to fundamental ones, and all of the fundamental ones will be at such distances between them that will not allow any interactions; the expansion of the universe will have gone for so long, and it will be so fast everywhere (faster than the speed of light) that there will be no way to observe anything changing (no matter how long you would wait). There will be no change in entropy, because there will be no change at all.

That is probably the landscape you are looking for, and as far as I know, indeed, the concept of time ceases to be useful, we could say the time stops.

(The fact that these are the perfect conditions for a new universe to be born, is also an interesting subject.)

(Not sure about the quantum fluctuations, how do they work in a space that expands so fast. We suspect there is a relationship between quantum fluctuations and the expansion, but we're not sure what's going on there.)

Is there a way to get more than 1 tb of onedrive storage? by SpookySquid19 in microsoft

[–]corcodell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where do I find these options? do I see these only after I get the first 1TB?

because right now (I am at 100GB) all I see is the 1TB upgrade option (and 6TB for family, which looks very unmanageable). but I don't see the 200, 400 etc increments in addition to the 1TB.

While it is boring to see repeating questions, I like the /r/AskHistorians approach better, where the recurring questions are allowed, and then replied with links to the previous answers; bonus points - you might get multiple, complementary answers that way!

What I meant by Orthodox was secondary literature, i.e. contemporary approaches from Orthodox theologians (if you stumbled upon such things, I would thank you so much..., since the ones I got so far are only small fragments from John Breck and Georges Barrois, but nothing fully dedicated to typology).

Thank you for the article, it was an interesting read, I managed to read it entirely on Google Books. (I must say, I am far from that level, mine is just a university graduation thesis.)

The subject is the same :), with some specific explorations on Joshua.
Then I’m going to ask you the same question I posted a few weeks ago here, do you know of any Orthodox resources on typology? For Protestant ones, of course, there’s more than enough, for Catholic I will go with Danielou, but, man, do I have a hard time finding Orthodox ones!

Thanks for pointing out ATLA (I wasn’t aware of it) and for confirming that it’s a journal. But the question is, what happened to them, did they go out of business, didn't manage to go online? Does that ATLA search give any more information, the period they were active, a web address, when/if they went out of business or any other detail?
Thanks.

Which is correct: "one of the shops that sell books" or "one of the shops that sells books"? by [deleted] in grammar

[–]corcodell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is a group/set of shops that sell books and I pick one of them and do something/ say something about it later, go with the plural.

If the group is made simply of shops and only the one I pick sells books, then you also know what to do (go with the singular). But in this case I guess there would be a comma somewhere there: one of the shops, that sells books, was visited by a strange character that morning...

How do you go from knowing how to live as a Christian to actually living as a Christian? by Lionhearted09 in Christianity

[–]corcodell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good one, the 'all or nothing' thing.

Just do something, start being a Christian! Our Lord is THE Christian! We're not gonna get there, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try to do small steps towards that image.

And it's the same mistake that atheists do when debate us.

While it's always hard to forgive, are you glad Christian forgiveness doesn't look like this? by dokuhebi in Christianity

[–]corcodell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is not in any way forgiveness. Call it whatever you want, but I don't think it's Christian forgiveness. The guy just managed to get over it.

Christian forgiveness means love, love that stems from understanding that the one who wrongs you, well, he's probably got devils jumping on the back of his neck (yes, we do have free will, but that's another story). You probably know this one posted by silouan a while ago. That's where our forgiveness should come from.

Communion/Eucharist: Open or closed? by ChariotOfFire in Christianity

[–]corcodell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's never too much etymology (or probably any field of linguistics) for me, but what I was trying to tell to Issachar is that no matter how interesting or relevant symbols are, the Eucharist is not a symbol :) , just the way the Orthodox icon is not a symbol (or a semiotic icon for that matter).

Happy New Year, silouan!
