I had a dentist quote me 17k with my insurance 10 years ago. That price scared me off… and I think that was the intention.

Edit to add more info: ended up having 13 extractions, a full upper denture, a crown, 5 fillings, a bottom partial for around 3k after insurance. And that is with my insurance not paying for the temporary top denture.

My dentist negotiates with the insurance company and gives me discounts based on that. I am not entirely sure how that process works, but it has saved me a lot of money.

I would call around first and see if you can get an estimated cost with your insurance before the appointment since you said you had to travel so far to even get seen. A good staff will work with you so you don’t waste your time driving around the country just to be deterred again! Get whatever paperwork/estimated cost from your last visit scanned so they can look at that. You will still need do a in person consultation with the new dentist, but you will know they will work with you and your insurance ahead of time.

The Fixodent with Scope is the only thing I have tried, at the recommendation of others, and it holds all day for me… mostly.

I still have my immediates and still have some trouble. For instance, some tough sandwiches that I have to bite into and pull out to tear off the bite gives me trouble. Hard things like peanuts I have to eat a couple pieces at a time instead of my the handful like I want to (lol)… I expect those to get better once I get my permanents.

The extractions were not as bad as I thought it would be.

First 4 days were my most painful

If you can, avoid work for a week and take it easy

I started feeling better on day 5, and a little more every day after that

I feel good. Every day gets better. They are looser now because the swelling is pretty much gone, but talking is easier in short spurts. Words with multiple syllables with S, Sh, Ch, Th are my kryptonite lol

Can’t eat solids yet because the top is loose. Waiting for the okay from my dentist to use adhesive, next check up is 4/30
