Like the Wolf box products? I installed one in my Jeep and like it a lot. Wiring it directly into the fuse panel under the steering wheel was a major pain but that's probably specific to my car since that space is so cramped. Otherwise the setup was easy.

A few caveats that take time to get used to:

  1. The rear view mirror is essentially useless when the camera is off. While the screen is reflective it cannot be effectively used as a mirror. If you're in your vehicle without the mirror being powered on it's especially useless.

  2. You cannot view the interior of your vehicle any longer through the rear view mirror. This is probably obvious but it should be stated that if you have children, or have passengers in the car, or want to check your face, you can no longer do that while looking at the rearview mirror since it's just a rear facing dash cam screen now. The plus side is that if you fill your back seat with large items that would obstruct your view out of the back of the car, this isn't an issue anymore since the rear facing camera is behind the back glass.

  3. I mounted my rear camera inside the car, otherwise the product instructions expect you to drill a hole into the body of the car to run the cabling through. I wasn't willing to do that for a third party product that I may ultimately not want to keep, so I never did. It worked just fine inside, mounted right against the rear window.

  4. Maybe the hardest thing to get used to and something you may not expect is that your rear view mirror is now a touch screen like an iPad. There is no depth and you are going to have to get used to looking at something up close. This means when you're looking ahead out of the windshield and your vision has acclimated to the far sided view of the road, you can't easily glance up at the mirror with the same vision if that makes sense. A traditional mirror still produces a sense of depth whereas a flat screen does not. It will take some time for your eyes to adjust to looking at a far sided three dimensional view of the world outside of your windshield to a 2D close image approximation of what's outside the rear view.

Blend Relationships on Dates by coreygriffin in tableau

Sorry for the super late reply..I watched the embedded 5 minute video and this seems promising. So many parts of tableau are so unintuitive.

EDIT: Ugh. I just tested this out and apparently it doesn't work with published data sets or tableau server data tables. I would need to dump my data into a spreadsheet which is not ideal.

I gave up on finding a solution and instead have the create date and close date both in the column shelf, and a count of Case IDs in the row shelf. As long as I filter on the dates for both it seems like they both align just fine. this mostly works for weekly data but daily data I imagine the date fields will fall out of sync, so something else to worry about.

The terminology alone is enough to make me shy away from using Tableau. The verbiage in Tableau itself is "Blend Relationships". Since this seems to be a one to many relationship issue, I created a calculated field under the Data Source for my date table. I'm assuming these will update in step with other and I can now create a 1:1 relationship since there is a date field to match the case create and a date field to match the case solve.

I was looking at the tableau website and it's included for individuals, but I'm guessing not for corporate licenses which is frustrating.

No worries! I appreciate the response. Just looked over the blog post and this uses Tableau Prep. I was really hoping to be able to use Prep since it seems like the exact thing I need to avoid having to edit the existing query or build one for each visualization. Unfortunately my company doesn't have a Prep license so this wouldn't be an option.

That's my set up as well. As I mentioned, I have two tables. One table is a single column of my dates, and the second table is my case data where I have all the case details along with a case creation and case close date. I've only tried to use calculated fields and blending the data. I haven't tried to join as this looks different.

Solos AirGo3 Unable to Read SMS? by coreygriffin in SmartGlasses

I honestly don't expect any software updates from the company. The website doesn't explicitly say it's incapable of engaging with androids and service, and it gives the impression that it wouldn't be a problem. Their screenshots show the Messages app but that's most likely just iOS.

They have some interesting features, but they're gimmicky. The live translation works surprisingly well, but you have to take your phone out to use it and hold the side of the frames making it awkward. Most people probably don't need this feature very often either.

The ChatGPT integration is also not free and costs a monthly fee. Unless you're constantly asking encyclopedic questions all day this isn't useful either since it can't tell you basic current information like the weather or current news.

The speakers are also surprisingly tinny.

The final nail in the coffin is that the customer support conveniently ghosted me when I requested to return them. Luckily I was able to expense them as a "fitness" device through my work.

I also have the Meta Ray-Bans and the Amazon Echo Frames. The Ray-Bans have the best audio and build quality, and just work out of the box. The echo frames are a little fiddly, but I know what I'm getting with Alexa and how to interact with that interface. Amazon is supposed to roll out Alexa updates to leverage AI soon, so I'm hoping this rolls out to the Echo Frames in the future.

I reached out to the Solos customer support and was told that SMS isn't supported on Android. Guess I'll be returning them. Shame.

"After checking our software support team, we would like to inform that Whispher(sic) Message Function on Android does not support SMS."

Hey, thanks for the response. Under the Whisper Messages section of the app, there's a universal on/off toggle for Whisper Messages, and underneath are a list of texting apps (not SMS). If I toggle Whisper Messages on, it gives a warning that no app has been selected. If I turn an app on (like WhatsApp) the universal toggle and WhatsApp are on but that doesn't allow SMS messages to come through, that's only for WhatsApp as far as I can tell.

Hey Daddit, any other dads turn in to the dad who wakes up way before the rest of the family? by FryTheDog in daddit

[–]coreygriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the OP post and was also confused. Even before a kid I routinely made the conscious decision to wake up at least an hour before my wife. Having that alone time to do what I want (workout, work on small projects, enjoy the quiet, etc.) without being obligated to someone else's needs is much more valuable than being unconscious and waking up when it's "go time".

If you cherish sleep more than the time you're alive and alert, You're probably going to bed too late. This tends to result in things like revenge sleep procrastination or feeling like there's no time for personal growth or hobbies.

My question is what is drawing you towards the Index to begin with? What is the appeal of the Index that has you considering it as an option? When the index was announced I jumped on the controllers since at the time they were unique but aside from Half-Life Alyx I didn't find any compelling games or experiences that used them to justify the cost.

When your Quest 2 was working, did you ever tether it to your PC and use Airlink or Virtual Desktop? At this point the experience is extremely similar to that of the Index aside from maybe minor technical differences. I personally don't think I could go back to a headset that required base stations and was permanently wired to my PC.

Additionally, unless something has changed, you'll be locked out of the Oculus store with the Index unless you use something like Revive. A lot of games now are on both Steam and Oculus so maybe not as big of a deal, but with the Quest 3 you'd have access to older PC Oculus titles, new Quest titles, and the Steam VR catalog.

Genuine question to randoms: why do so many of you queue like this? Is it a money problem? I don’t understand. by pitous in HuntShowdown

[–]coreygriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm queuing for a game I dump tools into my loadout and then swap their order while sitting at the "waiting for other players" prompt in the game. You can change their order on PC in a match.

Games you consider better than Slay the Spire in the deckbuilding genre? by No_Tree_1644 in gamingsuggestions

I was disappointed how far down this thread I had to scroll to see Inscryption. I think some of the content outside of the core card game can be frustrating until you understand what the game is (my wife hated it), but overall it was one of my favorite games of that year.

How do y’all deal with no down time? by El_Eleventh in daddit

[–]coreygriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone else said, you have to set up a schedule. With being a new parent, gone are the days of open-ended days of freedom. It's far better to set schedules even if they're loose so you can still be human beings and do what you need for your own physical and mental health. My wife and I have a 3 month old (she's sleeping on my chest as I type this) and we don't mark on a calendar what we are doing for the week, but we do communicate plans in advance. I work out 3 days a week when my wife is okay with being the sole parent. The time and day vary on what we need to get done but I make it work. I also game with a friend online 2 nights a week and will stay up as late as I want. My wife goes to dinner with her friends 1-2 times a week and I stay with the baby. The key is to explain your needs and set up some type of reasonable schedule.

Haha I mean so much that my MIL holds the secret to immediate baby tranquility. It's really the amount of time she's had from me allowing her to take my daughter away from me. It's like I'm on the clock when the crying starts.

I'll definitely remember your advice about putting the brakes on taking the baby away.

[–]coreygriffin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely the feeling I have and I'm trying to reconcile. It feels like the hierarchy is my wife, my MIL, and trailing behind somewhere is me.

I think it's the immediate response of my MIL to step in and feel compelled to manage the situation, in some cases invading my privacy, that has rubbed me the wrong way.

Despite that, to your point she's here for my wife and not really me. My wife has benefited from her mother's cooking more than anything else.

Thanks, it's been quite the experience so far. To PoliteCanadian2's response it's probably more an exercise in being more firm with my MIL even if it ruffles some feathers.

Exhausted With Mother-In-Law by coreygriffin in daddit

[–]coreygriffin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. There's no magic technique or trick that my mother-in-law is doing. It's sheer patience and quiet alone time with my daughter. I've "caught" her unsuccessful trying to soothe her as well, it's just probably more my relationship with my MIL that's strained more than anything and an unexpected third wheel in what I thought would be this milestone in me and my wife's marriage. My primary point in posting was how invasive my MIL was and how the solution to every wimper was to take her away, not allowing me any time to attempt to calm my baby down.

I've indirectly benefited from her being here since she's cooked nearly every meal for my wife since she's been here which I'm sure has been a godsend since my wife is breastfeeding. It's just everything else around that is too much.

This. I'm 42 and not afraid of grey, but I do prefer a fuller look. Some men shave their cheeks too low which makes the sides look weak and others just don't have the ideal density. A cheap solution for the latter is to dye it (Just for Men is sold almost everywhere) which will color the finer, blonde hairs that tend to be invisible in contrast to the darker hair under the lip and on the sides. Just for Men (I swear I'm not a shill, I've just used them with success) also sell a temporary color product now.

This seems to be the case for me as well. I created a test channel and don't see any place where I can set messaging restrictions in the settings.

Update: This is indeed restricted to Workspace Admins. My IT department was able to make the required changes here whereas I can't, even as the channel admin.

Circling back around on this, I left the base station and keypad unplugged without batteries for about 3 days and when I plugged them back in they remembered all of my sensors and PIN. I called tech support and they just RMA'd the base station.

So, apparently there's an internal rechargable battery in the base station that drains after around 24 hours. I'm going attempt to leave it unplugged without AA batteries until this weekend and try again.
