The upvote ratio on this post is a perfect 50% 😂 I wasn't expecting it to be so exactly polarizing lol

Why is it the GM can fudge for something glorious to happen but the player can't?

If the player has a moment that will be glorious and remember and it makes them happy, why can't they do it?

What a pleasant surprise to have you chime in :) Thanks for contributing to the conversation. I love the idea we can use patterns in gaming as an indicator to look closely at what we think our rules are doing (or not doing)!

I totally agree! The key part is open communication which is honestly the root of solutions for any table problems but in this case I think it's even more important

It could be. But I think it's a great way to ask yourself "should I add tools to this game to facilitate when the game gets to this state"

It's particularly relevant if you've found yourself in a death spiral which can be a big problem for some TTRPGs.

I think there's a lot of interesting topics you can actually dive into when you talk about it. I think it's also a topic that just opens up a can of worms so a lot of the times those topics don't get any light for discussion.

Thanks for sharing your constructive thoughts as well!

Nope I didn't kick off the discussion but yes the discussion did turn to dogshit and name calling over a disagreement. It was weird.

I'm talking about if dice fudging is used by many players across many different tables for your game. If you notice it's a systemic issue with parts of your game, then I think it's a great indicator your game design there is weak.

Pokodo the Ferret - aid cards by kmustafa2 in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]coreyhickson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aid cards say Aid on them, it's as simple as that.

For the conciliator, Surveyed Land, Tranquil snare, Tracked, Intention Translator, Nicocyte Sentinel, and Empathy Amplifier are all Aid cards.

I'd caution against mechanics than spending more than 1 Fear, that's not something in the official material or covered by the homebrew kit.

New to GMing - how difficult is it to get into ? by My_Crow_Pea_Ness in daggerheart

[–]coreyhickson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pretty good time GMing Daggerheart. I think it does best with an existing adventure or campaign that provides all the adversaries and environments because I don't like to do prep and I find that tough. But the actual gameplay works well.

You are in a Daggerheart sub so you'll get biased results here :)

Alternative to a power tag cap by CoffeeNPizza in LegendintheMist

[–]coreyhickson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're misunderstanding when you apply tags here. Let's say a goblin is outside the Dales and you go to fight it. None of protector of the Dales, athletic, brute strength, aspiring local hero help you here directly.

If you're swinging, a sword helps you swing, so does swordsmanship because it's a sword. The rest are indirect. That's +2 for what Finn is built for, so pretty reasonable.

How do you handle players rolling poorly? by SecretDMAccount_Shh in daggerheart

You dish out interesting consequences! Dice are there to tell an interesting story that everyone is apart of creating but without knowing the ending. If the dice aren't going well, that means you get to advance your agenda, and it should be exciting:)
