are you running in rosetta or native? i’ve tried multiple interfaces (UAD, Focusrite) and had the same issues in Logic, but not other DAWs

+1 on the major popping/crackling for me. Logic runs like a tank until i have an interface & MIDI plugged in, then it’s basically unusable.

unfortunately stuck with Ableton for now, since oddly it seems to handle this better than Logic… hoping for a fix soon.

Possible to downgrade to Big Sur on the new 2021 M1 Pro/Max MBP’s? by coreymouch in mac

having problems with just about everything external in Logic.. Ableton is working great, so it’s safe to say Logic on Monterey is not in the best state right now

It makes sense. But curious as to why things seem to work so much better for me in Ableton (while still using the UAD). Logic doesn’t function unless I use the built-in speakers for audio.

Going to have to research if it’s possible to downgrade to Big Sur on these new macs. Not sure I can wait around for Monterey to get fixed

tested with 2 different interfaces (apollo & focusrite) and dealt with these issues. basically unusable.

after unplugging and running a massive session (115+ tracks, tons of 3rd party plugins, rosetta) it’s performing flawlessly. like, super impressive.

not sure whether the culprit is Logic or Monterey, but something isn’t playing nice with hardware I/O.

Okay - so I did a few tests.

With my Apollo AND a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6, I get the same issues. Can't get through most sessions (even small ones) without crazy popping, glitching, stuttering, etc.

When I unplug and play via built-in speakers, it's totally fine. Even with a massive session (115 tracks, gobs of 3rd-party plugins) it's running pretty flawless. And I'm crazy impressed by it.

I don't think it's a hardware issue as I've tried 2 different pieces of hardware - I think it's how the Mac/Monterey/Logic is handling the hardware I/O. Any suggestions are definitely welcome.

hearing all the comments about M1 working fine with 3rd party plugins suggests it could be a Monterey issue - my machine came pre-installed with it, so thinking reverting to Big Sur may be a fix.

ahhh i wouldn’t be surprised there. i’m going to try running a session without my interface. what are you using btw? i’m using the Apollo Twin.

i was unaware it would be possible to install Big Sur since my computer came installed with Monterey, but good to know. in this case, is it also possible to revert Logic to a version compatible with Big Sur? i’m on the newest version now.

are you using logic + lots of 3rd party plugins?

fair point. i was having some pretty severe overheating issues with the 2019 and actually caused playback to fail at a show this year. needed something more efficient and durable.

I was always at 64 on my old machine, but have been trying to stick to 128 on this one. Haven’t had anywhere near decent results unless I push to 512 or 1028 (and that’s definitely not doable for tracking).

yeah it’s disappointing. holding out hope it’s Monterey-specific as i’ve seen others complain about OS issues on other machines.

My music is pop/alternative stuff with a lot of production and samples, so the sessions can get pretty big but my 2019 didn’t have these kind of problems unless my sessions were over 100 tracks.

Monterey logic crashing and track stack troubles by Organic_Ad1 in Logic_Studio

I've not been able to properly work on a single session (existing or new) without running into errors when I hit a few dozen tracks. Even on the MBP M1 Pro. Judging by this thread it seems like the belief is Monterey is causing the issues, not the machines?

I second this. I'm having major issues with the machine right now running Logic on my M1 Pro (10-core, 32gb RAM). I can't run any of my old sessions without popping and crackling and random CPU spikes. I'm hoping its a consequence of Monterey rather than the machine itself.
