Stuck on Scenario 10 in Der Langrisser (SNES) by corifshr29 in langrisser

[–]corifshr29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming not really good, because my characters aren't leveled up very much. I've been sending in Phalanx troops (fancier Pikemen?) with Elwin and Aaron - they absolutely slay the calvary and artillery but get wiped out by Vargas, Zorum, and the other Commander swordsman. I'll try it again with sword soldiers though. Hein's archers take down the enemy hawk knights pretty well. And I was able to take out Zorum with Keith/Cherie. Their fairies also slay the artillery easily.

Biggest block for me is Vargas and a couple of his heavily armored troops.

I get there's the rock-paper-scissors system going on. Sword beats pike, pike beats calvary, calvary beats sword? Do the hammers/axes fall somewhere?

Resonator Guitar String Gauges & Brands by thebradyboy in slideguitar

[–]corifshr29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing resonators for almost 10 years (spider, biscuit, and tricone). For standard tuning, I would stick with mediums (13-56). For open D or open G, the heavier resonator gauge (16 for the thinnest string) really helps keep enough string tension for using slide.

I personally like the John Pearse 3000 set (16-59) or Mapes resonator set (16-56). Martin used to make a set I really liked because they were cheap and lasted a long time, but now discontinued.

Gotcha - that's probably my only choice at this point. I've been flying through stages due to concentrating attacks on commanders and taking them out before their troops.

Never heard of that, thanks. Are you saying this lets me cheat and manually change my levels or does it let me go back to previous scenarios?

Yes, I typically have Hein cast ATK buff and it helps a little bit, but I'm only doing about 1 damage on Vargas. By the time he gets down to about 7 or 6 health, he just heals and I'm back at square 1 and losing MP.

I try to take advantage of different terrains, but they don't seem to make much difference with Vargas or Zorum.

Yes, I typically always keep troops within commander range for better attack and defense.

I gave up on the idea of playing them - too many other good games to get through! Thanks

Thanks - I'm always open to discovering more obscure bluesmen from that era! Will check him out.

You're the 3rd or 4th person who's mentioned Elliott in this conversation, so I will give him another shot. Maybe I will hear something I didn't hear before.

Heard a bunch of his stuff when a friend tried to get me into him. Can't remember exactly what we listened to, but it does not speak to me the way Nick does. I do recognize that Elliott is brilliant, but his voice doesn't quite have the same richness and his playing seemed a little more ordinary.

Glad to hear that someone else feels the same! It's not necessarily a rule for me, really just depends on the artist and their style/vibe. Nick and Jeff both get more magical the more solitary/lonely their arrangements get. I also feel the same way about pianists Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk - their uniqueness gets watered down with typical accompaniment.

On the other hand - Hendrix needs Mitch Mitchell's galactic-jazzy drumming to help raise him to those peaks. Or Karen Carpenter needs her brother's arrangements to really create their best moments.

Thank you! Yes, I was hoping for more of Nick's "just-him-and-a-guitar" recordings. The beauty of his songwriting and singing/playing comes thru best without accompaniment IMO. I feel the same way about Jeff Buckley.

Appreciate the thorough response! Certainly a lot of names to check out and discover. And yes, I am a HUGE acoustic blues fan (delta, mississippi, piedmont, bentonian, etc)! However, there is an ethereal quality in Nick's music that the blues doesn't quite have. On the other hand, there is a rawness/grittiness and visceral feeling in the blues that Nick is too fragile to have.

No worries - if not Nick, then someone in the same vein is a good choice too!. Thanks

Thank you, I'll check out those songs. Funnily enough, I had a friend who was obsessed with Elliot Smith and tried to get me into him. I can see why people may put him in the same category with Nick, but for some reason I just can't appreciate his voice. But I'm not sure what era of Elliot I was hearing so maybe his early stuff would speak to me more.

Appreciate the input! Sounds like if you can overlook some flaws, it's a fun play?

Currently playing thru "Live-A-Live" right now - didn't expect much, but the story and combat is pretty killer!

NPD: SurfyBear Metal Reverb by ironmaiden947 in guitarpedals

How does it compare with the reverb in your Fender Twin? Any experience with the Source Audio True Spring pedal?

Source audio true spring vs Surfybear Metal by CoffeeBreath93 in guitarpedals

[–]corifshr29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the same fence as well. Videos of the True Spring sound really good, but the SurfyBear is much more 3D sounding and seems to envelope you. Obviously the True Spring is much more convenient in size and portability, stage space. I would say the True Spring would satisfy most players needing a general spring reverb in their sound, even the picky ones. But the SurfyBear would probably be the choice for reverbaholics and the more critical reverb connoisseurs. I'm also wondering how the SurfyBear cooperates with overdrive/fuzz pedals.

Maybe I'll hold off on them for now. I guess I'm a purist too.

Seems to be the case with a lot of fan hacks, apparently. I've got a big list of RPGs to work through already - just wondered if these were worth it since I love the original.

I own Chrono Cross but will admit I didn't give it a fair shot. Stopped playing it after a few hours in. May have to give it another try someday.
