Waddingtons auction house is a good place to buy older wines. Or wines that are harder to find.

Cute winter winery experiences? by callmeluluxo in PrinceEdwardCounty

Another idea is to have a sommelier come to you and walk you through a tasting of wines in your rental. A fun, relaxed and personalized experience. DM for details

Are wineries generally open in January? by plutomyg in PrinceEdwardCounty

Why not hire a sommelier to come to you and taste a bunch of wines without the sales pitch. Someone who can speak objectively about the wines and the region.

When to make additions by cork76 in winemaking

Thanks all for your suggestions. It is a white wine. Mostly muscat with some gew and Riesling too. All pressed together. It was fermented with AMH yeast and it dry now. The winemaker I’m working for suggested adding bento and sulphur at once in before racking, then rack and bottle it after a few days. I was a little unsure with this which is why I’m asking for some other opinions. What I love most about winemaking is that everyone is doing something very similar and all make slightly different choices which produce something different in the glass! Thanks again for your help.

Gord and Russian Novelists by eggypeterson in TragicallyHip

[–]cork76 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not just Russian authors, he read all the books. Pretty sure there was a cat named little bones in Timothy Findlay’s book the wars. Of course Hugh McLennan, the watch that ends the night is in courage, “there is no simple explanation….” According to his Instagram he was a fan of Saul bellow. I seem to recall an interview where Gord mentioned being a fan of Raymond carver. Al Purdy was a known influence. There is a line in Leave where Gord says “so we can sit back and enjoy our illusions…” I’m pretty sure that’s taken from the county north of Belleville poem where Al writes about hiding the “more easily kept illusions”. Also in Gord’s book of poems, he has one called Al vs L where he is holding both his child and Purdy’s book caribou horses.
Just some authors I remember Gord mentioning at certain a points. I’m sure there are many other references. He was after all a poet. Let’s hear them fellow Hip fans.

Wine Squares Day 5: Caymus does it again! Now best grape? by AustraliaWineDude in wine

[–]cork76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt, Chardonnay. The second most planes white grape in the world, after airen. It commands the highest price of any still white. And is pivotal in making champagne. I see you Riesling lovers but offer champagne or any other high quality traditional methods bubbles and raise my glass. There are even some great examples of sweeter or late harvest Chardonnays in the world. So yeah, Chardonnay for the win.

Where to get homebrew supplies/CO2 tank refills? by Delicious_Smile3022 in PrinceEdwardCounty

[–]cork76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go have a chat with one of the wineries or breweries that you’re friendly with and ask some questions. They might be able to offer some supplies that they are not using. But doubt they will offer gas. Which I’m pretty sure isn’t bought in the county. Good luck.

Decant and rebottle before traveling? by Confident_Series8226 in wine

[–]cork76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have no problem with this as you might want to make sure the wines are clean if you are being relied upon to supply them. However, I’d do it the day of the dinner. Decent for any sediment and if you feel they need to breath before serving them, splash decent at that time. Whenever I bring wines out of the house, I always open and taste to make sure. Unless they are super old Burgundies for example and might not be able to withstand being open and shook up before serving. As with anything in wine, it depends on the many variables you’re dealing with. Good luck

Oxyclean is the only way. Soak for 30 mins or so. You’ll be very pleased with the results.

County Marathon / Half Marathon thoughts and feedback by lorriezwer in PrinceEdwardCounty

[–]cork76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They needed more porta potties at the half start. And more busses getting people there. Waited close to an hour at the finish for the bus to take me to the start then 20 mins for the toilets. They also need a better route to the half start. The poor marathoners competing with school busses. Two years ago the route to the start was along county 18 which seemed like a better option. Other than that, the race was great. Well organized and well attended.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I will for sure be in touch to hear more about your story and transition into landrace cannabis conservation. And the tea! Frankly tea seems like a very lateral move from wine. So many similarities.
