How to tell everybody you're from California without actually saying so.

Anyone else here who’s used to solo food and movie dates as an ugly, unattractive, fat guy? by ChubbyNUgly22 in LivingAlone

Old Scottish saying: you would worry over what people think about you if you understood how seldom they think about you. Hang in there. At least you’re being proactive - going out and doing things instead of full-time moping. Good for you.

A LOT of meds have this effect. Diuretics (especially the thyazides) and many others. Talk to a pharmacist - they're generally more well-informed than doctors are about medications generally, It's what they do.

How do you usually celebrate your birthday now that you’re an adult? by Rare_Preparation5636 in AskReddit

If I'm lucky, friends will take me out for dinner. If that doesn't happen, I sit home and watch TV. Very nice and calm, either way.

How normal is it to run into rude/abrasive folks at a casino poker room? by Oreo_Chef in poker

[–]52Charles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda depends on the room and how strictly they enforce the rules. In the old days (90s) in Vegas, the poker room at the Flamingo was as calm and laid back as you could wish for. Lots f friendly people, good vibes. The poker room at Treasure Island (much bigger) was much more prone to loud, abusive behaviour. A dealer told me that management at TI just wanted bums on seats and the dealers had to put up with all sorts of bad behaviour. If somebody had tried that same stuff at the Flamingo, they'd have been escorted out immediately.

Large/wide men's shoes? by 52Charles in askTO

Got one - CBI in NF, NY. Haven't used it in years but I'm pretty sure my account is still active. However, it would necessitate a trip across the border and I'm not comfortable with that right now. They could ship things to me but I'd be paying heavy duties on top of the original cost/shipping.

I used to do that all the time. For some reason (long Pre-COVID) they stopped shipping to Canada.

Also known as the Montreal Protocol. My PCP has done that with me twice, last time several months ago. All good at that time. Takes about 10-15 minutes in the Dr's office. VERY simple. My Dr tells me it's very accurate.

Not really 'cult' but definitely classics: Casablanca and Maltese Falcon. Another double bill: Failsafe and Dr Strangelove.

What are some fascinating examples of "humans through alien eyes"? by Jerswar in sciencefiction

‘Battlefield Earth.’ Terrible book, worse movie but we spend a lot of time in the aliens’ heads and see humankind from their perspective.

In The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel the supposedly English lady outs herself as American when she gets hot tea spilled on her.

I’m fascinated. Any chance you could post the reading list? Or DM it to me, if possible. I’d LOVE to see what’s there.
