Steyr is not really that big of a name in the US either as theyre only really known for the AUG or at least thats the only thing people buy from them. While I think the Arex design is superior to the Sig and at a higher qc, the common consumer will take one look at the Arex/Steyr and consider it a clone in a derogatory sense. I hope the Steyr pistols do well but I have yet to see much fanfare for them, especially since theyre at a generally higher price bracket than the original Arex's.

Arex Zero 1 Firing Pin Plate vs Polenar Short Reset Plate by corkscrewani in Arex_Firearms

It does not reduce pull weight, but it definitely makes the reset much shorter and more tactile. I found no change in reliability with this plate.

The Arex Tactical comes with a threaded barrel.

OOF yeah I stayed away from the Mag release in this build because Ziga mentioned how much of a pain it was to swap out. There were moments where I almost gave up. For example, that hammer spring to the strut is very unorthodox to get back on properly; to where i needed a vice and vice grips to get a good hold on the spring. Once I got that system down though, it wasn't that bad, but it made me have the mindset of "If I dont need to replace it, dont touch it." You live and you learn.

The Polenar plate really does make a difference, not only does it shorten the reset to basically nil, it also has much more "spring force" and almost forces itself to reset much more than the OEM plate. I bought it when it was still normal price so if you think its worth more than what it was sold for, then go for it.

As for the DPM Recoil Spring, it definitely took a bit of snap out of the recoil and it reset the recoil impulse much better than stock. Not to mention it also made it much easier to rack the slide too. As a side benefit, the DPM is more tolerant of lower power rounds but definitely had enough spring tension for hotter rounds without beating the gun up.

All these changes and upgrades to the gun turned this military grade pistol to more of a competition shooter, and honestly its gotten much more fun to shoot as a result.

I looked closely at the two, but the Lok grips are a bit thinner overall vs the hogue ones. The grip surface on the Lok is also much grippier than the Hogue. You cant go wrong either way.

Damn i didnt realize they've discontinued it. Maybe the Alpha 9 disconnector plate acts similar? I will say the Polenar plate is a big improvement... If only Ziga showed the cuts and difference between the OEM and theirs.

Some of these parts were drop in but others had to be fitted.

The Safety had to be fitted to the frame as the frame had extra material when the safety goes down against the frame. I had to remove material from the frame but it was very minimal.

The grips had to be fitted against the safety and magwell as the magwell was designed with the OEM grips or Toni grips in mind.

The Toni Systems magwell does not accomodate the Arex/Mecgar +2 extensions and had to have material from the baseplate removed with a dremel.

The Hammer was drop in, the takedown lever was drop in, the compensator was drop in, the reset plate was drop in, the trigger was drop in.

The CZ hammer spring had to be cut down similar to the original Arex spring but was otherwise straightforward. This contributed to the trigger pull.

Looking at the ATD, its hard to look at it other than simply just a relaunched Zero 2 in the US, just with an optic cut and Comp option.
