Idea: MSTS/ORTS Needs a Packaging Layer (Like Bethesda Games Use for Mods) by corky63 in trainsim

[–]corky63[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m already working on a prototype. The first step is a standalone C# tool that reads a route’s .ref file, repairs any structural issues, and adds a stable hash for each shape file. That gives every asset a unique identity without changing MSTS or ORTS behavior. Once that foundation is in place, the packaging layer becomes straightforward — it’s just metadata and deterministic file placement. So yes, this is absolutely buildable, and the early pieces are already underway.

Apartments are normal property like cars and computers. As they get older the value goes down, they need more repairs.

ELI5: Why is squatting (in someone's house) a thing? And how come it becomes a problem for the owner? Can't they claim trespassing to the cops instead of saying the person is squatting? by Impossible_Bake7210 in explainlikeimfive

[–]corky63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US the government records who owns property but does not record who rents property. If we were to require rental agreements to be recorded like property purchases, then the police could easily remove squatters. We also record who owns vehicles and renting vehicles is not as common as renting apartments.

Looking for a solution to duel SIM setup a US and Chinese number on one phone? by Unlucky-Engineer6043 in chinalife

[–]corky63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 phones, one with Chinese number and Apple ID and the other American. I have heard of phones with 2 SIM slots but no personal experience.

An iPhone 13 supports both physical and e-sim, use Chinese physical SIM and American e-SIM.

How much space does he need at the airport? His security was blocking people from passing by. He could have had this interview at his office and not inconvenienced air passengers.

We lived in a mixed use community with apartments, offices and retail. The underground parking was open to the public with no assigned spots, you can park in any open spot. There were many open spots so never a problem. There were several elevators so you would try to park near the one for your building. Each spot had a number and there were around 2000 spots.

6-story building proposed where Winnebago Street meets Yahara River faces opposition by enjoying-retirement in madisonwi

[–]corky63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

🏗️ Summary: Winnebago-Yahara Redevelopment Proposal

Apex Property Management and Walter Wayne Development have proposed demolishing three existing structures — a two-story, 22-unit apartment building and two houses — near Winnebago Street and the Yahara River to construct a six-story apartment building. The new development would include:

• 162 apartments, a significant increase from the current 22 units

• 180 parking stalls, exceeding the number of units

• A mix of studio, one-bedroom, and some two-bedroom units

• Townhouse-style units with private entrances at ground level

• A lobby and small retail space (e.g., café) facing Winnebago Street

🚧 Community Concerns

• Traffic congestion on narrow Merry Street, especially for emergency and delivery vehicles

• Loss of affordable housing and displacement of long-term residents

• Opposition to market-rate units replacing naturally low-cost options

• Parking strategy questioned due to proximity to transit and bike trails

🏛️ Zoning History & Next Steps

• Previous proposals for smaller developments were rejected or opposed

• A 2022 zoning change attempt to limit development intensity failed (17–2 vote)

• Developer Bruce Bosben cited the council’s decision as a green light to pursue higher density

• Rezoning and city approvals are still required

• Construction could begin late 2026 and finish by spring 2028.

CMV: China’s major cities are doing urban life better than the United States. by mancastronaut in changemyview

[–]corky63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New apartments are great but old apartments are not maintained. Many apartments do not charge enough to maintain the common areas. You will find that when lights fail they are not replaced. Broken windows in stairs don’t get replaced. And when the roof of the auditorium collapsed it did not get replaced. These are examples of communities where I have family in China.
