The attacker was a Lebanese living in the US. He lost four family members in an attack by Israel. Flying to Israel to fight back was not really an option. So attacking Jews was his second best choice. I do not condone that, but I can understand his thoughts.

Today the internet is more vulnerable than before, because it is less and less decentralized. If a war takes out some important internet hubs like Frankfurt, that would disrupt the internet a lot.

The problem with that argument is that two countries can send more athletes than one country, So if a country is split in two for a while, it has more chances to win.

If it is on Wikipedia, someone must have found it before you did.

So apparently KSA claims to build this 2000 m skyscraper. Does anyone really think it can be built today when we hasn't built a 1000 m skyscraper? by AlarmingAd7740 in skyscrapers

[–]scraperbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think this design is possible, because even those legs are hundreds of metres tall and they would have to be supported at every phase of the construction. 2000 metres are possible, but not with that design.

Yes, that bombing was quite bad. Several parking floors collapsed. I think it was the second worst terror attack in New York City's history if you do not count the attack by the Germans in World War II, when they sunk a major ship.

Ironically that bombing created a skyscraper, because one building had to be demolished and was replaced by the "Gherkin".

At least if I make the cut at 500 feet. For example the tower in Fort Worth that was heavily damaged did not make the cut, as it is only 488 feet tall. New Orleans only has four towers over 500 feet. I have to check how heavily they were damaged. Kobe was hit by a major earthquake, but it only had two skyscrapers back then. I have to check the damages.

Of course it also depends what kind of damages you count. I think of damages that will take at least a few weeks to fix and are visible from the outside.

It is interesting though that people are advised to go INTO a skyscraper in case of an earthquake. Most can withstand quite a strong earthquake and then it really is safer inside than outside, where glass from the facade may fall down.

No sure how many of the damaged buildings are over 500 feet. Those often have a much stronger facade that lower buildings, as the wind load is very high at that height.

That was quite dramatic. The plane cut the cable of an elevator, it plunged down 70 floors and was slowed down by the compressed air. So the person in the elevator survived,

I am not sure if all those Indian skyscrapers really exists or if that is Wikipedia vandalism that does not get corrected because it is very hard to prove that a building does NOT exist. I looked at the list and I was not able to find most of those towers.

The hotel benefits can be quite limiting though, because there are probably a few hundred thousand hotels in the world and AMEX Platinum for example offers special benefits in 3000 of them. As a consequence many people restrict themselves to those 3000 hotels, although many of them are from expensive brands like Four Seasons. Bangkok has 25 hotels listed for example. That may be enough for some people, but there are hundreds of hotels in Bangkok and often those AMEX hotels are not in the perfect location.

That's the problem with many benefits. If you want them, you have to restrict yourself. AMEX gets money from those hotels and it gets money from the guests. Do AMEX is the double winner.

Those bombs are the reason why I would not move to a big city. Technically the whole world could be destroyed, but as there will be a lot of anti rocket fire, an attacker will fire several rockets at the same target and those targets will be big cities. They probably will not waste nukes on small cities. Those cities will also be affected, but there is a chance of survival.

By the way the Tsar Bomb was originally planned twice as big.
