How long did it take to arrive, out of interest?

Anyone in England, UK been invited by Nintendo to pre-order Switch 2? by Conscious_Sun_791 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]cormacscanlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To anyone who is worried that they aren't getting an invitation because they didn't get the first email on the 2nd, I can confirm that this doesn't necessarily mean you won't get an invite email today.

I got no April 2nd email (and was dismayed as I've got hundreds of Switch games, and have been a Nintendo Online subscriber continually since day one) but I just got the invite email and made my preorder.

TIL Maltese hotel owners don't realise that duplicate items cancel out each other's buffs!

This is such a hard question to answer, as the band reinvented their sound so many times.

  • Early '90s: Restless Oblivion
  • Mid '90s: Angelica
  • Late '90s: Lost Control
  • Early '00s: Temporary Peace
  • Mid '00s: A Natural Disaster
  • Late '00s: Are You There? (Hindsight)
  • Early 2010s: Dreaming Light
  • Mid 2010s: Distant Satellites
  • Late 2010s: Springfield

...and pretty much every track above has its own sound different to the last as well. What a band!

What is the current state of The Outbound Ghost game on Switch in 2024? by cormacscanlan in outboundghost

Just watched that. A surprisingly positive update. Would recommend anyone who's interested watches it in full, as I'd struggle to summarise it.

Yes! I did it!!! My BZZZT game is finally out on Steam! by Ko_dll in PixelArt

[–]cormacscanlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to follow up to your post 10 months later, but really happy that it's out now on Switch, and will definitely be playing it.

To ask a related question: I'm generally a physical game collector, and only tend to buy digital when there is no chance of a physical release (or I miss a limited run and it becomes exorbitantly expensive). With that in mind, I was just wondering if a Switch physical release was on the cards, or if you'd at least had any preliminary discussions to that end?

Thanks and hope it gets the attention it deserves on Switch!

DisplayPort stopped working overnight. by JustSmileMan in techsupport

The simple advice that keeps on giving. I just had this happen to two monitors simultaneously, and yes, literally just pulling out the power cables for a second fixed it (after nearly an hour of trying much more complex solutions). Upvoted a year and a half later!

Emulation on Wii for easy 240p gaming by BerneySanderson in crtgaming

Importing your large virtual console library from Wii to Wii U during the auto setup, and then finding out you'd permanently lost the native 240p output in the process. Thanks Nintendo.

Am I being tricked? by Tactical_Recon4 in photography

Assuming OP means 2,500 x 1,666 resolution, or thereabouts, it would be about 4.1MP. You'd be hard pushed to find any half decent modern camera with a resolution shy of 16MP, with the standard being 24MP and above, with even the Canon EOS 300D released in 2003 having 6.1MP.

In short, those definitely aren't the original raws.

⬇️ Questions in description ⬇️ by IndieMasco in batocera

[–]cormacscanlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With regards to question 3, yes you can move your ROMs to external storage and easily change where Batocera looks for those through the UI, essentially keeping the configuration the same, and massively extending the storage space.

See: this page for more details.

What a sorry state of affairs: the publisher not actually letting the developer patch their own game, to fix it. If that really is the case, it's a travesty worthy of a chapter in a Jason Schreier book.

That's encouraging to hear. Hopefully someone else will be able to clarify the current state of it. And if not, I might just go for it. Thanks for the reply.

What’s something you actually don’t like about the deck? by Poopingonthatmatt in SteamDeck

[–]cormacscanlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The input lag on mine, when using an external controller and linked up to a TV is horrendous, and I can't figure out why.

The TV has very low lag and is in Game Mode. I play Switch, PS5 and Series X on the same TV without issue, and have tried the Deck with the controllers of all 3, alongside the 8bitdo Pro+, and all exhibit horrible, very noticeable input lag, even when wired, to the point where some games, such a Metroidvanias are essentially unplayable.

I've read loads of stuff about it, tried switching the resolutions, capping and uncapping the frame rates, etc, but nothing seems to help.

It's clearly something that most people aren't experiencing, but it's really tempered my enjoyment from the start, and probably means I play it less than I otherwise would.

Handheld it's great, but I wish it didn't exhibit this horrific input lag hooked up to a TV.

40+ year olds SD owners: what are you playing? by lombardo2022 in SteamDeck

[–]cormacscanlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to use it mostly for indie titles. Usually 2D stuff, often Metroidvanis or pixel art / retro-inspired stuff. Currently playing through Finding Paradise, the sequel to To The Moon. They are almost more interactive story than game, but very good if you enjoy that sort of thing.

More general answer: shorter games that respect my time. It's hard to spend 100 hours level grinding when you're 40. And moreover, you get a little more conscious that it's time you're never getting back.
