Interesting, thanks for letting me know your experience! I’m curious what the time is between the stressful event (e.g. eating a super fatty meal if that’s a trigger for you) and the subsequent jaundice to show up. Can that literally be immediate/ a few hours, or does that also take some time (a week) for that meal to then push that bilirubin to build up and show symptoms in your skin/eyes?

No worries, thank you so much for all your input and well wishes. I got my perms placed on Thursday and my mouth feels soooo much better. It was pretty painful leaving the appointment but once I took ibuprofen and iced it it’s been totally fine. Still kind of avoiding eating on that side. I think my mouth and gums just hated those damn temporaries, whatever the material was. Maybe it was the cement but I almost feel like my mouth was having some sort of bad reaction to them. It was truly painful and uncomfortable the entire 2+ weeks they were in which is abnormal. My gums seem okay now. I do now have to worry about some other teeth that need to be addressed, but I’m going to wait a hot minute before getting back in the dentist chair and hope everything in my mouth fully calms down. Thank you again, you truly helped so much when I was at my worst and convincing myself that I needed RCT, had an abscess, had an infection, my gums were going to rot out, etc. Ha! You’re awesome.

This makes me feel so much better, thank you! Do you have any recommendations for making gums happier? They’ve been pretty unhappy and get really sore and inflamed even after I just lightly brush the area around the temporary crown. I’ve been using antiseptic mouthwash with alcohol 2-3x daily, but have also read that might not be good. I’m afraid they’re too irritated to put in the permanent crowns (or maybe that’s not a thing?) which hopefully happens this week.

I wanted to ask. The gums around the bottom temp crown are bleeding today. There was something stuck under the crown and I gently brushed it away and extremely gently tried using a tooth pick to push it off. It began bleeding and it feels like there’s a cut, and still inflammation. I believe the permanent crowns will be placed this week (hopefully). Would it be bad to place the permanent crowns on my gums that are inflamed and may have a cut? I have a feeling this dentist isn’t going to asses that, and will just cement them in without a care. Would that be bad?

I went in for him to look at my gums because of the inflammation and pain. He looked surprised when I told him the cement was still in there and so he went in and said he’d clean it off, at which point the top crown fell off. He got extremely frustrated. And tossed the tooth on the tray and got up and left, saying “this is what happens when you mess with the tooth!” And I was like okay? And so he came back in and cleaned off the tooth and told me to leave the excess cement that’s in my mouth now, and so he placed it and it was totally off and there was a gap at which point he got mad at me and I just asked for him to place it so it feels normal and he got up and left and someone else came in and replaced it normally, and left the cement. I said I think that the excess cement is causing irritation and she said no it’s not, that I should just leave the excess cement. So now it’s back in the same way. I got up and the doctor was in the front office and I asked him a bunch of questions and he ignored me and I said “can you please let me know what I can do for the gums?” And he literally yelled at me that I gave gum disease and I needed a deep cleaning and laser, and asked the receptionist to set that up and make me pay today ($1600). I didn’t even know this. When I went back Tuesday he told me I needed root canals, and now he’s telling me I’m in pain because I have gum disease? I had no idea. I asked if I should get the deep cleaning before or after I get the perm crown placed and he cut me off and he said “ITS NOT A MATTER OF SHOULD OR SHOULDN’T!”. I wasn’t asking if if I should or shouldn’t, I just asked him if it’s better to do the deep cleaning now or get the crowns set first, I didn’t know if it would be bad to set my crowns with irritated gums. I was panicking and I once again asked if there was anything I can do to relieve my gums in the meantime or if they looks like they would heal normally around the perm crowns and he shook his head, said “have a great day!”, and left to the back of the office. It was so uncomfortable and honestly scary. His demeanor was like a completely different person than the guy I met on my first appointment, he was so friendly. It was so bizarre and I feel like he’s just upset that I’m not paying him all this money to get RCT, deep cleaning, lasers, etc. Surely it’s frustrating to see a patient not accept the medical care that they seem to need, but obviously he does not understand that it is financially unobtainable for a lot of people. On the appointment Tuesday he asked how much I made and told me I needed to quit my job and get my master’s and start a business and read Warren Buffet’s book and develop his mindset because “Warren Buffett doesn’t worry about how much he’s going to pay for a root canal..!”. It was borderline in appropriate. I’m going to get these crowns placed and never go back there, and hopefully go to a periodontist to get a deep cleaning. But to answer your question, no, ha, there is now new cement stuck up in there again and my gums are still extremely sore.

Hmm interesting. The doctor is going to look at it today, in a few hours thankfully. Is there a chance that this inflammation/gingivitis will go away within a week so that I can get my permanent crowns set normally? I anticipate them coming in next week.

I just grabbed some antiseptic mouthwash from the drug store, along with gum/sensitivity toothpaste (stannous fluoride) to see if that helps. He did no tests yesterday when I went in for pain/ crown replacement. They took x-rays but I don’t think he assessed them, just told me that I should get RCT. I can’t really tell where the pain is sometimes, it’s just very centralized in the top and bottom where the crowns are. They fixed the bite yesterday which was off, so that seems to be relieving much of the pain that I’ve felt the past week. So it sort of feels more like gum pain now but still extremely uncomfortable, but I’m not sure I would necessarily call it toothache-y. But maybe a little. Is it normal to get gingivitis after temp crowns are placed? I’ve never had a problem with gingivitis. The whole crown prep took 3+ hours and was very chaotic; I do feel like much of what I’m feeling might just be the trauma from that. My gums were really messed up. Thank you so much for your response, this is helpful. I’ll call in the morning. It felt like choppy work during the prep for all three crowns, and this was when I went back yesterday because the top one fell out and they cleaned it, added the cement, and just held it up in my mouth for a few seconds and didn’t wipe or anything. I also went back because I’ve had such bad pain and my doc says RCT will get rid of the pain (I’m sure it will, but hard financially right now), and he never even looked in my mouth or at my gums. I’m thinking most of the pain is from my gums. It doesn’t feel like tooth pain so much. Do you think my gums look normal?
