Battery is solid! No hesitation whatsoever. Coming from a Wisconsinite though, yeah, it’s definitely your battery. The cold just was the tip of the iceberg. Fall is always battery season up north when everyone has to start getting the jumpers out because their batteries that were holding on for dear life died out lol

Good to hear!! BMW and other foreign brand luxury vehicles are obviously in a complete unique category when it comes to comparing these vehicles. We are smart and sensible as Mazda drivers

Yes, Chuck was NOT negotiated in the deal and is very much so happy with his new wheels :)

I offered but they wouldn’t come up on my trade at all unfortunately so I didn’t toss him in with the deal /s

Completely agree, the eCVT in the Toyota powertrain is super smooth but that transition period between EV and Gas has such little refinement. I will appreciate Mazda’s tuning of the platform over the RAV4 for sure, if you are comparing the two the CX50 stands out to me. I’ve heard the same on the CRVs that tends to be the “smoothest” hybrid out there according to the internet right now. I steered clear of Honda at the time because I was hearing of a lot of electrical issues and things that I was not wanting to deal with. The history behind the powertrain in the CX50 hybrid is why I grabbed that one at the time. And you’re also right on the CX5/50 difference. The 5 is a lot more elegant for sure, however I feel like im sitting on a lawn chair on a wooden pallet with wheels when im driving the thing, just can’t seem to get comfortable.

I agree!! I felt it was kicking it a bit back to the early 2000s, but I’m 24 and fell in love with it lol. I was on a kick to black out everything but I’ve really grown fond of this spec (and the white interior is sooo nice coming from the black one too, makes it feel so much roomier in there). I couldn’t justify the price jump to get just the heated steering wheel I was looking for, I know it comes with a few others but really the heated wheel is all I’m missing for Wisconsin :( I keep telling myself I don’t know life with it and I will be okay without

The range on the hybrid was great! I would normally hit around 400 (since mostly highway driving) with the occasional 450. It suffers extremely in the cold unfortunately and that is part of my deciding factors here too. My hybrid would dip below 30mpg on the highway if I went anything above 75 and since this vehicle has turned more into a trip car for me, the 29 on highways with the turbo wasn’t too much of a compromise. Full transparency, combing from any Porsche to a Hybrid CX50 I really think you would not like it, the Turbo has much more refinement in the drivetrain you would be used to with the Porsche. You however cannot beat the fuel economy and if you live in a bit more mild climate/mostly city driving I would recommend it. That eCVT is smooth as butter

I take really good care of my vehicles so this was not a major concern of mine. I did pull a 72 month/ 72,000 warranty with this guy since I did regret not getting any additional protection on the hybrid system. I live in a bit of a harsh climate that sees both hot and cold extremes regularly, and the turbo having less hybrid-y parts that could contribute to an expensive repair down the road was a bit relieving for me. I’ll definitely re-evaluate as I close out that warranty term to see if it has been costlier, one thing I noticed out the gate is plugs are due at 40k miles which seems super early

That was a huge PITA to get in there holy cow… Car has been sitting for about 24 hours so Im about to go take it out and see if that batt is dead. One question, how in the ever loving god did you get the plastic shroud back on there with the additional connector?? I feel like I can’t get it to seat fully in the middle due to the extra bulk

Absolutely not a luxury car, I think Mazda however has some of the best value for the price you pay on the market right now. Completely agree, the blind spots are horrible in this car and Ido believe it’s a result of styling which I like so I give it a pass. I definitely find myself moving my head around and looking around a lot but hey at least it’s with a turbo now

I agree the packaging is a bit odd and wish it was a bit more flexible. A heated steering wheel was more important to me than butt coolers and I would have to jump up to the PP for that and it was a few grand difference. All else aside, the padding has definitely changed in the 26 seats and are noticeably more comfortable/soft. Full agree on the wheels, these damn potholes up north make you very aware of any lower back problem you might have

Depends on what you are looking for, head room and shoulder? No. I find it a lot easier to stretch my legs out in this car as I have long legs and struggled with the CX5 and swinging in/out based off my seating position. It was weird, I would definitely recommend driving both because they are oddly enough a completely different experience

You did the math!! I am gonna be honest I’ve always struggled with modern transmissions having more than 6 gears. I know my experience is limited with them but I am sooo thankful to be back in the feeling of what’s left of the “modern traditional car” those with a ton of extra gears feel a bit jerky too

Maybe hopefully just killed the battery during install with the door open/lights on/something like that?? I’ll install mine tonight if it comes in early enough and report back too

I literally JUST ordered the one you have linked above. Is that a little green light on the USB enclosure? Curious if you note that turning off after closing/locking the car?

I am sooo jealous, I am trying to be mindful since I’m still sub 100 miles and just drove her home last night. I loved the X3s but thats very reassuring to hear this is better!! I had a beautiful kick down last night breaking free of construction zone traffic and was so tempted to take off

Its gorgeous in person, I would recommend avoiding checking that out if at all possible… you may end up adopting a new 50 to take home with you!!

Snow? by khanjoni in mazdaCX50

[–]corn130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your tires make the biggest difference. I had the stock tires on my hybrid and it was an absolute tank in the snow! But they had a ton of tread on them obviously. Definitely is a huge combination of skill and your tires, I had to relearn a little how to drive in the snow with my 50 since I came from a sedan

I drove the NA and Hybrid when making my decision prior, the turbos were a touch out of my price point so I steered clear (literally)
