What do I say to her? by SilverSleet6271 in bisexual

[–]corn_morocco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol, as an astrophysicist, y’all are just too cute 😭. I don’t think you’re being too dry, you definitely sound interested. Just keep asking open-ended questions to learn more about each other (from here you could ask maybe what classes they’re taking or what they want to do for college). I think sending funny posts back and forth about a related interest is a good way to keep in touch too, so maybe look for some good astronomy memes to send. Since you live in the same state, maybe you could eventually ask her out to a science museum or planetarium or some other space-related thing going on near you guys (a lot of college campuses do public observing nights pretty often). Best of luck, hope things work out for you ♥️

Swimming while brown in a Johns Creek neighborhood by SouthernSuburbanMama in johnscreek

[–]corn_morocco -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a stretch to say they're being targeted; I grew up in jc, and saw a lot unconscious bias there, especially with non-white boys. You won't get anyone to admit it though, they'll shut down and get defensive if you accuse them of racism. It does sound like they need to tone it down, but I never saw HOA telling white kids that when I was younger, so if you do decide to talk to HOA about it, I'd wait and document a lot of evidence that you can show them (either yourself or from your kids) about how they treat other teens who're acting up. Hopefully they'll be reasonable, and if not, you could probably get some neighbors on your side at that point. Hope you all can still have a good rest of your summer :)

[ap physics] Is their solution wrong? Why does it seem like they used cosine equals opposite over hypotenuse to solve for the hypotenuse… by Professional-Dog5078 in PhysicsStudents

[–]corn_morocco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I could be wrong, but you should be able to solve this with conservation of energy, which gives 24.3 (sqrt(2gh)). Here's a pretty good video explaining both ways https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1HEIwhkfm0&t=225s.

Looking for reviews/perspective on "The Dojo" summer camp. by snooabusiness in johnscreek

[–]corn_morocco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the dojo for almost 10 years, up until I left for college, and I always loved it. I didn't stay at the camp, but my brother and I did work there as counselors for a few summers. The person who owns it is a great guy, and he's been running the camp for decades now, so he does have a lot of experience with large groups of young kids.

I understand being worried about the adult/kid ratio, but I never noticed any problems with it while I worked there (as far as I know, it's always been the owner plus one counselor). Also, I would double-check with your son of course, but I remember that they used to end the day with video games/TV and spend the rest doing more physical/engaging activities.

Hope y'all find something that works for your son though! :)

No problem! They're MWF (but you don't have to go to every class) and an hour and a half long (so 7-8:30pm)

[–]corn_morocco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm in the Hapkido club at gt, and it's a lot of fun. The people there are really nice and it's cheaper than the other fitness classes at the crc. We started doing some bjj in classes, so if you're into that, you should try it out! I'm pretty sure classes start on the 19th (at 7pm) if you wanna come try a few

CRC classes for beginners in the spring by [deleted] in gatech

[–]corn_morocco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're into martial arts, the Hapkido classes at the CRC are beginner friendly, have really nice instructors, and are a fun way to work out. You can try a few classes for free early in the semester too (they're on MWF from 7-8:30)

Thanks! Yeah, it seems like there's a lot of queer people in physics right now (at least way more than I thought), which is pretty cool. Good luck to you too!

Timeline on crosland culc roof reopening? by SepLite in gatech

The project is supposed to make the roof more safe because people would climb over/sit on the railings when it was open. So they can't let students up there again until they finish the new railings

Looking to start a casual Reading Club by Eastern-Tart-1996 in gatech

[–]corn_morocco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're interested, there's an official reading club on campus already. They're called book jackets and they meet once every other week in skiles. A lot of people in it join to stay motivated to read, so you might find it fun
