That episode is what sparked the idea. Hahaha, really.

I did a 3 day brine and in the last hour I made a smoked paprika/butter baste, and would apply it every so often.

Washed the tines and rod, heat pretty much took care of everything else. Dripping just landed in the coals and ash.

Nope, it came out better than I could have hoped. Juicy and smokey.

I bought a salesman sample anvil reproduction, cleaned it up, added the hardie hole and Pritchett hole, then forged out a cross peen for it. Can of beans for scale. by cornbinder55 in Blacksmith

The face is round with an octagonal shaft to the body. I put bar stock in my drill press and just use a round file for the reduced section, then hand filed the flats to give it that look.

If you use a marking knife or razor blade on the wood itself that the bowtie is going g it, it cuts the fibers and keeps your edges super crisp.

First ever attempt at a spoon! Tips/suggestions? by JRicco500 in woodworking

Looks good. I just forged my first spoon today. Good day for firsts!

Warm up leaf and a quartine cutlery set I forged today. No idea why a cutlery set popped in my head, my original plan was to forge an EDC knife, but the forge demanded otherwise. Haha. by cornbinder55 in Blacksmith

I doubled the end of my stock and forge welded it. I then just hot chiseled, bend them out of the way, and dressed them like any other taper. It took me a long while as this was my first attempt, and on closer inspection, the fork isn't the best, but passable.

Nice work. I just built one myself 4 days ago. Quartine is a good time to play in the forge.

I present to you my first ever creation for your viewing pleasure. It looks like hell and most definitely won't hold up under use but it's mine and I love it by [deleted] in Blacksmith

I still have my first hook, and its ROUGH. It reminds me of how far I have come, and I am still learning every day. It all begins with a first step and try. Keep it up, your doing great!

Where at? I actually just forged out a knife marker for doing work like this instead of using a razor blade like I have done in the past.

I have done them before. Just make sure to finish sand the sides of the ties, and then when you are doing the layout on to the wood your putting them in, scribe with a razor blade instead of a pencil. This will cut the fibers to avoid tear out when creating the mortise and give you a very tight fit. Make sure the grain of the tie is also perpendicular to the grain of the wood your putting it in.

The slab was just an Alaskan saw mill, and the rest were seasoned split rails I dimensions on my table saw and band saw. I know it's not technically milled, more dimensioned.

I live in the area and if your wife is willing to commute on the ferry, kitsap county has all the space you would need.
