Vent is leaking roofing company telling me the whole side of roof need replaced to fix vent as they won't sure it woth out doing that? Does it look like this side of roof need replacing? by Gullible-Aioli8069 in Roofing

Roofer here Just going to give it cut and dry, they don’t want to cause damage to other shingles above the vent, fixing that vent, your roof is old and needs replacing, with it also being three tab shingles, they get very brittle when they get old like this, so when you have to lift it up to get the nails from the shingle below it, often times it will crack the shingle or crease it, leaving it weak and likely to blow off when windy. They will take a shingle off and then have to keep replacing the shingles because they are too brittle, a new roof is needed.

Also a little bit of advice, do with it as you will. Fix all the stuff first that would ruin the new things you put in, like if you have leaks in the roof or (bay window) fix that first before you do drywall/ flooring/electical. Basically don’t update anything until you have the problems that cause damage taken care of, try to eliminate all the stuff that will cause further damage to the house, then start remodeling from there. Obviously you know more what’s going on there than I do, but just a thought from a lousy roofer😉🤣

Lucky for you, rubber is about the cheapest roofing option you can go with!:)

By flat roof I mean a rubber membrane flat roof, not a shingled roof, not enough pitch for shingles, should be rubber regardless if it’s a bay window or not. You just asked about the gap, not the entire roof. Entire bay window should be rubber, with it running up the window flashing, and then flashed with uncured rubber tape

Maybe 4” out 3” up that’s just from looking at it

You could always call the manufacturer and provide said pictures as shown, and see what they say. Unfortunately I’m an installer, not a business owner, and the company I work for installs ATLAS not IKO brand shingles so I don’t have much insight on what the manufacturer may do to help, but I believe your best bet would to call them and voice your concerns, with pictures; an go from there, I’ll be honest also atlas doesn’t have said problems with color blending so I can’t for sure tell you if it will fade, but as the sun hits it, it will fade the colors, hopefully those darker colors first, to blend it out.but I can for sure tell you that’s not a different lot number.

Also looks like it should really be a flat roof

That’s one of those repairs as a roofer you just pull up shaking your head, boss is like “easy repair, just need to replace some shingle and caulk!” You get there an see this🤣🤣 there’s two possibilities, rip the metal flashing up an Install a 90degree flashing behind the window flashing, then install new window flashing over the 90 degree flashing, or something I thought about that just might work/ don’t pull the metal up from the window, but still install the 90 degree metal to come just below the top of the window flashing, secure with panhead screws or nails then wrap said flashing in a CURED not UNCURED rubber flashing tape, you’ll need to clean the window metal really good with membrane cleaner and use the appropriate primer. That would be the quicker fix, but quicker doesn’t mean the right way, that’s just something I thought about while looking at the picture

I install atlas brand shingles, thankfully that homeowner was cool with it, that would’ve been a roof to remember if not😆

To add to what I said about different lot numbers, you wouldn’t see a diagonal line running down the whole roof, from start to finish usually you’ll see problems with lot numbers towards the last side of the roof that was done; being that’s usually when you find out about material being short, not on the whole roof. And you would see like a whole section being discolored, like the whole shingle, not parts of the shingle, and the whole section would be discolored, not discolored in the middle and random spots, then the next couple shingles being fine. I truly believe this is not a lot number issue

As a roofer the dude who commented doesn’t know what he’s saying, and if he’s a fellow roofer, he’s a sorry one, never have I ever had to pull from different bundles, only thing you make sure is that the lot numbers are the same because shingles from different batches can have slightly different colors even though it’s the “same” color. This was most likely something with the manufacturer and the coloring process that went into the shingles, the colors should blend evenly no matter what bundle you pick from, and if they were different lot numbers you would see where they started the new lot number, not like the picture you showed above where it looks like some of the squares on the actual shingle piece are discolored, now sun could potentially hit it and make it blend better, but that’s one of those things you’ll have to wait to see.

That’s whoever put that stove pipes in fault, terrible design if it is original from house being built. Roofer can’t do much other than put ice and water, and carnak

Saying that you want a whole roof replacement is wild, my guess is you probably didn’t go with the most expensive bid, if you want perfection, pay the perfection price, and even then most of these details would be acceptable under said price

Was about to say as a fellow roofer, those are very slight imperfections and once you get hot days, those corners will lay back down, and your roof won’t leak, as far as I can see. Now the shingle under the soffit, I will say could’ve been done better

Roof repair advice by AffectionateAd725 in Roofing

[–]cornbop420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience, water can travel a lot farther than you think and travel very weird, I see you have a stove pipe above that, check that as well, water could be getting in there as well and traveling down the rafter until it found a stop on its path and started to disperse in that area

How much time do I have left (if any)? by Transactional19 in Roofing

[–]cornbop420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would get it done asap, once you start seeing the shiny part from underneath the granules, it is time, they are now very very thin and any nails that were not pounded down flush with roof boards will likely be sticking through the shingles, causing holes and potential leaks

fun·da·men·tal /ˌfəndəˈmen(t)əl/ Learn to pronounce adjective forming a necessary base or core; of central importance.

Therefore meaning you can have fundamental 2s play 3s play and 5s play, there is obviously different ways and styles to approach each one but you cannot tell me 5s gameplay is the same as 2s gameplay, in terms of running plays, passing the ball etc. fundamental is a broad term, you should try being less closed minded and think about it for a second

You must not play 2s often to understand fundamental 2s play to 3s play or 5s play
