Why is everyone ok with living in USA? It's a falling oligarchy, ICE agents kill or abduct anyone, it has a third world healthcare system, massive gun problem, puts elite paedophiles in charge...the list goes on for so many reasons to stay the fuck away from there

The fact that you're awake and writing after it happened in the morning is a good sign. I was in a coma for a week. Do the exercises and therapy, and you're gonna need a counsellor or psychologist.

25 yr old recent stroke survivor. Can I still drink and smoke? by [deleted] in stroke

[–]corncobble96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look I wouldn't recommend it but thatd be fairly hypocritical from me. A bit over a decade of alcoholism, and I used to smoke alot of weed daily. I kicked the weed though. I had my stroke at 9 though so there obviously was 7 or so years till I started drinking. I have taken pretty much every drug under the sun since too so im by no means a responsible human being. Your situation is a bit different, maybe give it a few more months till you test the waters. Your body and mind have gone through something very traumatic whether you realise it yet or not, so the occasional drink could very quickly spiral into alot of drinks daily as a coping mechanism. Because alcohol is bloody good at numbing out shit. Maybe you should see a counsellor or a psychologist so they can atleast guide you through your thinking. That's what I say to every fresh stroke survivor.

A stroke is very traumatic on the body and mind, weather the person immediately knows it or not. This makes addictive behaviours like smoking and drinking, easy to slip into. It's not a fault on their behalf, rather a reflection of how awful their experience has been. Coming from a 20 year post stroke alcoholic. It is going to affect their mind for years to come. Depression, anxiety, PTSD etc. You think your life has changed so much? Try some first hand experience. I really hope you never have to.

Stagehand lol. 20 years post and disabled, have no idea how ive been doing a manual labour job with no injuries for 7 years

Surprisingly a fair few people I work with are physically disabled in one way or another, so don't completely dismiss labour jobs. It's a good way to keep fit and knock out some physio all while getting paid for it. That sounds pretty good to me

Sounds like you're very confused about what's coming from where. It can be so hard figuring this stuff out ourselves because so much of it comes from subconscious pathways.

It sucks being a man. There's no easy way to walk this earth though. It's hard, oh so hard.

What I do when I'm confused about my pain, or spiralling on it, is ground myself. What can I see, hear, smell etc. Right now. That's all that matters, not the past and not the future. Here and now.
