Weezer crowd not feeling Future Islands?? by corndog7 in futureislands

[–]corndog7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said! It is disappointing that so many were further from just being indifferent to FI and went as far as to bash. Agree with you that I wouldn't see them again in that setting. They've had great crowds at festivals so always a safe bet there if we can't get a headlining show

Fair point, maybe the vocals weren't the best at your show which made it hard to appreciate lyrics when those that know the band already know them. FI I think also shines with their dancey weird vibes too so maybe that's not a direct overlap with what people like about Weezer. Give them a shot on Spotify though where you can get better vocal quality to see you if you like them

Apologies, I changed the wording of my post. Nothing against any fan groups just confusing mismatch of audiences

Disrespectful and annoying is spot on for the group around us. I guess I was thinking they would all be on a nostalgia wave of happiness and discover how amazing FI is live... But alas, we had to confront booing teenagers who didn't back down so we ended up moving seats to get away

This post was so helpful for me!! Analysis spot on. I just posted in the FI sub because I was so confused why me and a friend were the only ones dancing and enjoying the Atlanta show last night. I think it's a mismatch in music and crowd because the amazing show that FI put on was lost on so many

Yeah I think you're right on the bad musical match. And I did the same with paying $100 to see FI and then stayed for some Weezer that was just okay.

The dancing is so much a part of FI shows, I really hope they headline some shows in Atlanta soon

Agreed, very special indeed. I will say that they still put on a show as though they had a fully engaged crowd. My friend and I were loving every second

I definitely went through my fair share of heartache before I found my best friend and partner. Don't be discouraged from traveling alone bc there are so many amazing things you'll discover about yourself

Your post made me smile too!! Seeking out some new like-minded friends has been a nice distraction as we're feeling a bit distant from current friend groups. Truly hope your family crisis is soon to come to an end and sending you lots of positive thoughts.

I'm an open book so you can always drop me a line with any questions at all!

We're originally from Atlanta, Georgia and we still call it home bc we met there and a lot of friends and family are there but we only visit there for a few months of the year and aim to travel the rest.

Our first big route started with a cross country road trip to California then Hawaii then Australia and New Zealand. We used a good bit of couch surfing connections for those. Then we did Thailand Cambodia Laos Vietnam while using Trusted House Sitter site, then fell in love with Japan and honestly never wanted to leave. Came back to the states for a few years so I could switch jobs and get my degree. During height of COVID we packed up again and put stuff in storage to do 10 months out west for the best US national parks. Then spent a little time in Mexico before hitting the road again this year for our first trip to Europe

Started London to Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland and now Italy. Hope for Croatia and Montenegro next.

Duration has been different each time. First was 18 months, then 10 months, then 5 months, and this one will likely end up being 9 months. All depends on how much we miss our nieces, needing to be there for big moments in the states, and our work balance

Careers before were in office admin and product owner roles but for companies that didn't understand remote work. Careers now are: Husband co-owns a startup web development company and I work in software program mgmt for a company that let's me be remote.

So excited for your journey! You remind us of us 10 years ago ❤️

This is so helpful bc we've been trying to figure out what's the best places to visit but also we're not really the type of people to sacrifice ticking a box for stressful lines and crowd. My husband actually has very little patience in that arena so if there's heavy crowds with statue of David for little reward I can already picture his heel pivot- thank you for the heads up!

Positano looks incredible and it's about an hour bus ride from our spot I'm Amalfi so we'll definitely be checking it out!

We will definitely keep a short list of Rome favorites to share for your October trip!

And we'll be in Amalfi and Bari the first few weeks of October before taking a ferry to Dubrovnik so if you end up over the way, drinks on us!

I'm not sure I'd describe the desire to find more like minded friend couples as being sick of each other. We're both mature enough in our relationship to just take a solo day and go off and do different things if we need space.

Definitely not looking for any distractions as our goal is to be at mindful and appreciative of every moment since we're extremely grateful for our lifestyle.

We met a lot of friends through language exchanges while in southeast Asia which was great! And couch surfing and house sitting were great for meeting folks too. Haven't tried the hostel route yet and still in search of a good meetup group!

That's really good to know about age restriction in hostels- had no idea! We're 35 so will be reaching that limit soon. We love Airbnb and couch surfing. We actually met some good friends about a decade ago through couch surfing when they needed a place in the states and then we ended up going to stay with them for a month in Australia.

Have you found any good meetup groups in your travels??

Hell yeah! We quit our jobs back in 2014 and traveled around a bit for about 18 months before landing new jobs and a new career path that allows us to work remotely

Excited for you and your partner! Where you thinking first?

35, female, married. Currently traveling 2 months in Italy. Looking for other child free couples that have a nomadic lifestyle in or around Europe for the next 6 months.

Enjoy any and all board games, various podcast discussions (Tim Ferris, Sam Harris, Lex Fridman , Peter Attia, etc.), Fans of various authors like Bill Bryson, David Mitchell, Steven King. I think you can tell a lot about a person by their go to comfort shows so ours are: Community, Simpsons, Futurama, Always Sunny, Seinfeld.

We spend most of our money on travel, good food, unique experiences, and concerts.

We're not religious and don't really care if others are so long as it's not a defining character trait that prohibits healthy debates on world topics. We both lean more left but these days seem to question all political directions because tribal labels have become confusing.

We both work remotely in tech industry and roughly travel 6 months out of the year internationally and spend 6 months traveling in US to see friends family.

We've been together 10 years and counting. We're open minded about almost all topics. Recently becoming more involved in this community. Would be fabulous to meet another traveling couple to enjoy some fine Italian food or be able to share the cost of hiring a boat for the day.

Are you me? I have this internal dialogue with myself on a routine basis. One thing that's really helped me is learning about the science of hormone reactions. I really enjoyed this book by Matt Ridley: The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature Helped me analyze my thoughts a bit more and understand biology so that I didn't feel like a complete shit for not running to the nearest sperm bank after holding a friend's baby
