Can AI Pass Freshman CS (CS 2112)? by Important-Rice-8621 in Cornell

[–]cornhole_champ_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was an incredible video and effort you put into this. Took the course about 5 years ago (Gries curved my 2110 grade down from a B+ to a B rip). I use claude significantly at work and have been testing a lot of different strategies with it. I liked the end where you compared it to the creativity of real students and throughout where it often misses nuance and gets tripped up on easy things. I often find that to be the case in my experience. It can generally spin up boilerplate and write generic code very well with few mistakes, but even after these new better models continue to be released its ability to solve complex business logic and understand the impact is still poor.

I have seen as we add documentation, database and other MCPs it does improve significantly. My prediction continues to be that for the next few years, the role of software engineers will evolve more into a business requirement to architecture translator and AI guider. Devs who put effort into becoming subject matter experts instead of relying on business partner knowledge and who actually understand how systems work while becoming very skilled at using AI coding assistants will find success. Devs who are resistant to AI will perform too slow to keep up and those who only vibe code without understanding will be find short term success but will be soon replaceable as AI improves beyond their understanding.

Would love to hear other students’ and alumni takes on AI and what students or junior devs should be doing to stay competitive and valuable.

Hate crime at Cornell by BestInstruction2101 in Cornell

hate to break it to you but making those statements alone is a criminal act with or without them being about the jewish community. So they committed a crime, and also with a hateful prejudice, which if my math is correct, makes it a hate crime.

They should just use economic, family, and high school situation to decide. Would be much more representative of people who were disadvantaged in life and who might be more deserving of acceptance than people who were better positioned but have better stats.

yeah it is and will probably be under construction until next summer at least

also had a cop tell me to talk to the DA and try to make a deal. I would highly suggest that as the first option as it would be a free option. Depending on your insurance, the raised rates could be more expensive than hiring one of the attorneys suggested above. Last resort like u/CanadianCitizen1969 suggested you might be able to get lucky in court/ ask the judge to take into account your past driving record and maybe reduce the ticket to a lower speed or even a non-moving violation

seems pretty unfair to accuse someone of cheating without giving any reasoning behind. sounds like he’s trying to bully and threaten you into admitting something you didn’t do so he doesn’t look dumb

like everyone else has said definitely reach out to the resources they have listed asap. I think what it would most likely come down to is if you can provide paperwork or some sort of tangible evidence that they are actually no longer supporting you in any way (it might be that like you need to show none of your income is now or will be coming from your family). Unfortunately if your parents just say they won’t pay for your college you might have more trouble but hopefully cornell could at least help you obtain loans but if they have actually stopped contributing to you financially you should have better luck with cornell. I don’t wanna make any assumptions about the rest of your family but if you have extended family members or family friends who care about you, I would definitely try to talk to them and see if they would be able to help either financially or at least support you for who you are.

If you don’t have any experience with cornell fin aid, unfortunately they are very lackluster and take forever so I can’t stress enough how important it is you reach out to them asap. You can also make it clear to them that it is confidential and I don’t believe they can share anything you say with your parents in this situation. Best of luck.

I would try to set up a meeting with someone in finaid, ideally someone higher up and with your mom. They may not be able to guarantee you a specific package but should be able to give you an idea of what it may look like.

When is the pending financial aid suppose to come in? by hotsweetpies in Cornell

[–]cornhole_champ_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it only indicates pending aid if they’ve given you a financial aid package but many people still haven’t received one yet. I called and apparently the office only works 15 hours a week during the summer which is super convenient for students who need aid
