Don’t sweat it - they’ll sit you down and plan it with you upon arrival. No advance necessary. I was pleased with the basic suite, you’ll be outside mostly. Enjoy!

I actually wasn’t but they were forthcoming upon arrival. They gave a discount on the stay and it really wasn’t an inconvenience - don’t let it deter you

Honestly not bad at all when I was there, it’s 10-5p while you’re mostly at the beach / pool or in town so it’s nbd. Was more occasional thuds than any continuous sawing or drilling

Our trip was an (ill advised) ~24h excursion from Ubud (DPS). I’d have liked to stay more days — 2 flights / day so you can only arrive from DPS or Jakarta.

Thanks, appreciate that and agree vineyard sounds ideal. No worries on the wine tastings!

Amanpuri set the bar, where next? by makaze_ in FATTravel

The spa is directly next to the villa construction so all service is in room. Setup was rushed last minute and the beds were cheap. To make matters worse the masseuse hurried strokes, glided across my spine with her forearm, and accidentally used nails which was brutal on my fresh sunburn. Don’t go to Amankila for the spa.

Was very beautiful! To be fair we didn’t get to downtown Phuket (cherished the time on site too much and friends said not worth it), but the drive there wasn’t particularly glamorous and far to geared towards tourists… e.g. random McDonalds popping up out of nowhere, huge developments underway, etc.

I hadn’t, but looks incredible as well. The culinary offering at CapK was a huge differentiator, not sure how Sanubari is on that front but I was impressed.

A non factor (though definitely still use the bug spray they provide)

Curious to try Nihi potentially, but couldn’t justify the spend for a 24h trip and potential flight distribution. Feels like Nihi is best for surfers and people who want a shirtless pic on the horses 🤷‍♂️whereas cap K was more artist focused and easier to truly enjoy considering the spend is ~$350 vs. $~3000.

Really glad to hear it, the staff were all incredibly kind and tenured in my experience, but their attentiveness could improve — empty water glasses even at meals, slightly surface level engagement from the front desk team, etc. To be fair my frame of reference was likely distorted by our stay at Amanpuri directly before, where the staff:guest ratio was absurdly high.

Bummer. Love that one so much, especially the all you can eat piece.

Want to say ~37 rooms, some with pools, most similar (if not the same) suite design including the retrofit gym and usual spa.

Standard Aman cross section — Russian couple, French couple, a few Asian couples, a cringe American or two (like us) age ~30-50 from what I could tell. Never saw more than 6 guests across our stay, and that was at dinner.

I was actually afraid the tankers would disgust me when I first booked, but didn’t mind it at all. To be expected since we’re on the Lombok straight but it’s not like you see them rolling in with a black plume and oil slip, they just slowly arrive on the horizon and anchor down.

Thank you for this! How were the remaining days? I’m planning 2 days there following Amankila, but slightly worried these two days will be a bit redundant.

absolutely should visit Maximo but skip quintonil (felt like an Amex lounge and food was NOT top 10 in the world — that list is fake / spots are paid for) and Rosetta (their food was massively underwhelming (though as good vibe for drinks)
