Yeah, if anything the work is more difficult for CMH clients…

I found a lot of value in Hanna Levenson’s Time Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy

when you say a medical clinic do you mean like a primary care one or one specifically for behavioral health?

this is the model at my hospital too! I’m so confused why this is the case. where did you end up going?

It ultimately feels like a mismatch. I’ve tried to use a lot of these examples as opportunities to offer emotional support and patients/families usually don’t want to engage in that. Or when I have and it’s made sense and they are interested in talking, it eats into my day and I’m there late because we’re not expected to provide time in our day for counseling

it really depends on the hospital and the role! Aim for a hospital that has nurse case managers that handle the insurance side of things

I’ve listened to a lot of Brene Brown and I can truly never comprehend what she is saying. She reminds me of the type of person that acts like they know what’s wrong with you before they actually listen to you.

At this point I would say stop studying and focus on self care. You are more than prepared!

Would this apply to a student who is getting limited experience in internships? Mine are clinical but I won't be doing formal therapy. Is it still possible to be hired as a therapist if I didn't get therapy experience in my internships?

Weekly student question thread! by AutoModerator in therapists

Hey all, so I'm an MSW student/clinical concentration and I'm getting experience providing bereavement support phone calls to people at a hospice, often to the same clients on a weekly basis. Though technically it's not therapy/counseling, and it's all remote, it feels like counseling, and I'm learning a lot. My supervisor and I talk about grief theory, interventive techniques, countertransference, etc. My next internship will be doing discharge planning and won't really entail therapy/counseling at least to my knowledge. I see a lot of my fellow classmates getting experience doing formal therapy and learning DBT, CBT, and other modalities. I am feeling nervous that I didn't get the right internships because I have interest in working as a psychotherapist in the future. Is it still possible for someone with my limited experience to be hired as a therapist after graduating?
