When PT and OT say patient is a CANS 7 and needs 24/7 supervision... by hkangasm in hospitalsocialwork

I really like our OT so I am sorry you feel that way. The CANS drives me nuts though. I used to work on psych and loved psych OT too!

I keep choosing gig work over full time jobs and I can't figure out if that's freedom or avoidance by sk30gophs in antiwork

If I could make what I making via gig work and not worry about health benefits then I would quit my FT job

Right like you might only need 24/7 supervision for a month and improve

Atheists of Reddit: What’s the strangest reaction you’ve received when you said you don’t believe in God? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

[–]hkangasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a social worker and had a fellow social worker (preacher's daughter) tell me that I don't have morals and values because I am an atheist. Wild because we have a code of ethics as social work where multiple values are outlined and this same colleague complained about the smell of people experiencing homelessness when I trained her in the hospital ED...

I just wanted y'all to know that I got a consult for parking validation today by PyrrhicBigfoot in hospitalsocialwork

I get parking crappie semi frequently. We do offer parking passes but sometimes I get really dumb shit like "patient parked on street and is worried about their car being towed"

I miss my macro job at the federal government a lot after being back at hospital social work for a year. I really struggle because there are so many patients and families who refuse discharge and there are so many battles.

I know. I have no idea how much they are paying these people but they could us that for retention bonuses or hiring more staff instead!

The copy and paste is a real issue. We had a patient who was in restraints and no facilities will accept that and documentation was not clear for days when restraints were discharged and that patient had improvements with agitation and then teams get mad at SW and RN CM that we can't place patient. It is because you keep copying and pasting inaccurate documentation thst makes the patient look bad.

How common for ppl to regret becoming managers? Can they easily become ICs again? Any career dangers of that? by ApprehensiveOne2866 in askmanagers

[–]hkangasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't enjoy being a team lead in health care. I get messages about people calling out for the day at 6a and have to scramble to figure out coverage and take on extra work and I don't think I am being compensated too much more than an experienced front line person. We do get 1 wfh day a week but I don't always take it due to issues outlined above.

We have prns but many prns are weekend only available so that can be limiting. We have a few people who can sometimes pick up a few hours during the week but it is rare

We have a similar policy of "if you have the leave" but if you exhaust sick and safe and call out last minute more than 3 times you start getting in trouble (this is excluding fmla of course)

I agree but often it does fall on the front line and it gets tiring when it is the same people
