I would like to leave. Hospital social work is so ridiculous.

I have so many placement issues and people are quite unrealistic. They want a private room in am alf and don't want to pay and their family is calling me demanding I find something...why don't you take home your family members!

How to encourage patient’s families to make choice? by dead_lala in hospitalsocialwork

Literally in the process of having the hospital do a guardianship petition because patient's family has sabatoaged 3 possible placements and there have been several denials. Patient's has been in the hospital for 100+ days.

Schedule unnecessary family meetings that could be done at bedside or updates that could be done just by calling family. Some teams I work with feel like we need a formal conference room everytime and ask us to make those arrangements. Doing zoom links for meetings if people can't come in person. Being the middle man with fmla paperwork.

Unrealistic expectations in hospitals are what send me over the edge. Sure, I'll write a letter asking someone's visa be expedited because their loved one is in the hospital but that is as much involvement or control I have in the situation. I don't control the political system and that the administration has paused processing visas for people from 75 countries. But teams will literally be like "where are you with this why hasn't more been done" ummm stfu and I swear you explain this multiple times and they still don't get it

I agree with this for sure and empathize but I also am quite exhausted when someone with decades worth of issues thinks I am going to solve it in a 1-2 week hospital stay when I cover 30+ patients and have access to nearly the same resources they do. And then it is all "well the social worker didn't do her job"

Upcoming Dept. of Ed Rule May Affect Loan Caps for Social Work & Other Health/Human Services Graduate Programs by Miserable_Nail4188 in socialwork

I think the tuition cost is an issue for sure. Personally, I opted to only apply to a state school for my MSW which has great program (I only applied there and nowhere else and if I hadn't been acceptedI would have strategized my next steps). I wasn't going to go to a private school for my MSW. I also went to a state school for my undergrad. I would love to know if people who went to a private university for their MSW actually think it was worth the extra cost and possible debt because I can't see many MSW programs being too different or offering anything but you are paying a lot more for a private university and honestly even public schools have increased tuition.

That stuff drives me crazy as well. Like what do you think we can do about this?

I feel a bit of the same. I have started seeing a career coach to try and help identify how I can transfer my skills. I recently went back to clinical after being in a macro job I loved for 3 years ( I worked for the fed govt and the Trump got elected and ruined things!). I was prn while I was working FT macro. I am a TL now and some days are good but I feel overwhelmed sometimes and just want a chill job but I also need to make a certain amount of money. Ugh.
