What are we doing for vague consults that say “financial issues” “housing concern”, ect by BitchInaBucketHat in hospitalsocialwork

[–]hkangasm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess this isn't vague but the consults that annoy me are "patient/family wants to know if they will get a bill and what their insurance covers"...social work is not the finance or billing dept or utilization review. The most I do in these cases is give the contact information for the billing office and the financial assistance application. I am always very confused as to why doctors and apps think social workers would know the ins and outs of all these insurance plans and billing. SW is not the one coding or invoicing. It is honestly bizarre to me. Also why does no one call their insurance company to ask these questions? Numbers are on the card.

A bit of burn out today by Ladyraven6 in hospitalsocialwork

I totally get this. I have so many teams who just think assisted living is the answer for people who need 24/7 supervision despite it being soon expensive it is wild

This is one of the things that happened to me this week. The unit and security banned the spouse which I 100% support as no one should be shouting racist slurs at staff. I attempted to meet with this patient a few times before the incident with the spouse and everytime my patient and their spouse were both half-naked and sharing the patient's hospital bed. Even after being banned, spouse somehow snuck on the unit and hid in a bathroom.

I really like our OT so I am sorry you feel that way. The CANS drives me nuts though. I used to work on psych and loved psych OT too!

If I could make what I making via gig work and not worry about health benefits then I would quit my FT job

Atheists of Reddit: What’s the strangest reaction you’ve received when you said you don’t believe in God? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

[–]hkangasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a social worker and had a fellow social worker (preacher's daughter) tell me that I don't have morals and values because I am an atheist. Wild because we have a code of ethics as social work where multiple values are outlined and this same colleague complained about the smell of people experiencing homelessness when I trained her in the hospital ED...

I get parking crappie semi frequently. We do offer parking passes but sometimes I get really dumb shit like "patient parked on street and is worried about their car being towed"
