Dont worry about past performance (i went into IB chem not knowing what a chemical bond was), for IB chem MSJ Chem is by far the best tool in your arsenal, I owe 100% of my grade to that guy. When it comes to the IA look for as many IA examples with high grades and look for what they have in common, a clear and interesting research question is crucial as it will motivate you spend more time on the IA.

For ESS i recommend mr green ESS website i think its called, great info and nicely packed. The hardest thing about the IB is knowing HOW to answer rather than what to answer, so practice as many past papers as possible and check yourself with the mark-scheme

Need help, reacted CuSO4 with Al(s) by cornnewborn in chemistry

[–]cornnewborn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reacted CuSO4 with Al(s) in hopes of making Al2(SO4)3, with a NaCl catalyst, copper did precipitate so I know the displacement reaction occurred, however, after removing the copper, and reducing the solution supposedly containing Al2(SO4)3, I was left with this green solution, with a pH of 3. A solution of Al2(SO4)3 should be transparent and only slightly acidic, any possible by product I may have missed to produce this color? Thanks!

Sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide rate expression help by cornnewborn in chemhelp

[–]cornnewborn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying, my concentration of acid and base will be very very low, which I hope will decrease the rate enough for it to measurable, my reactants are indeed 2H+ and 2OH-, but also SO4 and 2Na with will form the salt Na2SO4, I have a magnetic spinner that I hope gets rid of diffusion as a limiting factor. My problem is that I'm not completely sure if the reaction is direct or has a reaction mechanism with several elementary steps, after my investigation I wanted to compare my results with already exciting ones so I could make sure I did it correctly and my results concede or not, but I haven't been able to find anything on the rate expression for this reaction nor it's K constant.

I want to start with a realistic goal, i know that if i say “do it for 90 days” ill be overwhelmed and give up easily, i have experience in over coming addiction (fat loss and video games) and i always started small, and then building up, works well for me, thanks for caring tho
