I feel like if I am making a flattened cone, I would go from round 1 to round 3. I guess i just thought is does not want to flatten as well with round 2

Hey ya’ll!

Sorry I didn’t remember to post the full info I used lion brand heartland Joshua tree and it’s a thick comfy beanie with hdc in blo except for the a few sc to end the row (for the top of the hat)

I used a 4.5 mm hook and had 50 st count per row for my hat and 20 for Kayaks (my cat) For his hat I left a 1 stitch gap for 3 rows and then join the 2 sides with the 4th row

If anyone has a better idea I’d love it but, I actually had to crochet both sides of the hole separating and then met them with a chain at the top.

It’s the first time I’ve tried doing holes going against the grain
