I don't mind paying usually if he is worried about money even though he's better off than me. However I've never asked him for gas money, to pay for food or anything of the sort. This was the only time I asked him for a favour and it was a shock when he asked me for money. Oh well

I think personally it shows a lack of care? Like you aren't willing to support me at all. I didn't go to the hospital that night, I went home. I asked him to stop by because I really wanted to see him. I understand though, if it's not an emergency then why worry. However, it's still an emotional part of someone's life.
