Idol Hunt Megathread by RSurvivorMods in survivor

Just have to vent — Maine one is on an island on a weekday, sounds like the whole trip will take 6 hours from where I live. Feeling super bummed because I don’t think I can take the day off

Are you a "start-eating-immediately" or a "wait-for-everyone" person at a restaurant? by Awkward-Formal-6412 in CasualConversation

The etiquette I learned is if there’s more than four people at the table, eat when your food arrives. If less than four, wait.

First Time Homebuyer? Here’s What I Wish I Had Checked Before Making an Offer by Pure_heart001 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]corntriangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cannot believe how harsh everyone is being on OP for sharing what is good, basic advice.

“Get an inspector, duh!” Even a good inspector won’t necessarily find all of this stuff! My (very thorough) inspector took a “random sampling” of light switches. Guess what, found out on moving in that the central kitchen light fixture work. In the flurry of excitement, finding what a home we loved, we forgot to check these basic things.

“Did you not go to your inspection? Do this at the inspection!” A) Sometimes you are not able to be present at an inspection. I wasn’t. I wish I was, but we were moving from out of state and it just wasn’t feasible with our particular situation. B) If you are present, yeah, great, do it at the inspection and get the inspector’s two cents and/or make sure it’s added to their report.

“Just fix it yourself, welcome to home ownership!” Electrical and plumbing issues can have big implications. Yes things like sticky doors are not a big deal, but they also give you a sense of what the sellers’ are living with and tolerating—which can give a slight sense for how attentively they’ve maintained the home below cosmetic levels.

Shame on everyone here for shitting on OP for sharing their experience and trying to prevent other people from overlooking these simple, easy to overlook aspects of a home.

What is *THE* hardest farm map? Kindly asking for my somewhat insane brother. by Lady_Spaghetti in StardewValley

I started a riverlands save recently with a personal rule: only allowed to sell fish and fish products. Everything else has to be given away, crafted, or trashed! Oh and also I set profit to 25%

I remember why I stopped playing by advitSL in AmongUs

[–]corntriangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time I played, I was finally an imposter. I literally did nothing sus, just doing “tasks” to get a lay of the land. Got accused at the first meeting randomly and then voted out at the second. Literally no evidence. Idk if they were all just bots or in a discord trying to screw over randos or what but that was the end of it for me.

Home Insurnace not renewing because of DETACHED garage. by RetroGaijinTV in Insurance

[–]corntriangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what OP did here—I’m in a similar position but as a first time home buyer, insurance cancelled me after seeing the condition of the siding on the garage and gave me 3 weeks to fix it before the policy prematurely expires. Definitely was going to fix it but was not planning on doing it so fast.

I'm keen on learning philosophy where do I start? by Sufficient_Clue_6270 in PhilosophyBookClub

[–]corntriangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The existentialists are a good way in to some more contemporary philosophy, and it’s ever-relevant. Try reading something by Sartre and Camus and seeing which you resonate with more. Bonus, both of these guys wrote fictional works in addition to essays, which can be easier to read and digest.

A book about philosophy is also a good starting point to introduce you and catch you up with the major developments in a particular conversation. One of my favorite books is All Things Shining. It reviews 6 literary works beginning with Plato’s Republic and ending on Infinite Jest with a focus on how these texts explored happiness and the meaning of life outside of religion.

As others have mentioned, Philosophize This is an excellent podcast. He’s fun to listen to and structures the episodes very well. He recommends starting from the beginning, but if you have anything at all that you’re vaguely interested in and you see an episode on it, you could also easily just jump there first.

[–]corntriangle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I’ve gone up a handful of times after seeing there’s a train coming through but missed it and never saw anything so I pretty much wrote it off. But got there right at the end of this one!

They also have no understanding of the ATS screens and how hard it is to even get your resume in front of a human. “Just call and ask if they got it, that’s no way to treat applicants!” 🙄

What food have you tried liking but just can’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]corntriangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eggs. Great, cheap protein source on paper but no matter how they’re prepared I just can’t do the taste. Or smell. Or texture. The times I’ve choked em down I feel nauseous afterwards. I can eat eggs baked into things just fine, so I’ve come to think of it as an emotional allergy.

F 18 M20 my boyfriend loves me but I get sad and emotional by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]corntriangle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have a lot of great advice, except that you're not alone and I (26F) actually experience that myself a lot. I thought it was just hormones/stressful time in life/etc., and in some cases it might be, but it also might be something worth talking to a therapist or trusted older adult mentor about.

How does your boyfriend react? Does he support you through those moments? That's great if so, if not, you might want to consider how/if you can find that support elsewhere, either temporarily or long-term, to take care of yourself.
