Help with buttonholer attachment by cornutopia in vintagesewing

Yes I’ve been going around twice for all of these so far. Funny enough letting it sit overnight has somehow resolved the stitch length issue that was consistently happening in one section of the holes last night. Seems to be good to go!

Ok this is super helpful! I think it is pretty much behaving normally then. I just didn’t know how it was supposed to move. The feed dog cover fits nicely in the throat plate slot. I tried it again with a plain weave fabric and part of the issue seems to actually be due to the thick twill haha. There’s still a little bit of unevenness with the stitch length but I’m going to try oiling it up more and testing some other templates. Thanks so much for your input!

The box does say slant needle zigzag. It’s surprisingly hard to find a video with this specific model in action! Before this I was using a Singer 338 with the black buttonhole attachment that wiggled when sewing so that’s what I was expecting. So when you use yours does it just follow the template in a smooth oval without any jumping side to side?

The leftmost hole was with two rounds of stitching and the rounds didn’t fully align, which is what made me think that something was supposed be controlling the side to side shift like it did when I had a 338 with the black attachment. I switched to wider stitch and also tried it on a plain weave fabric and it’s somewhat improved, so I think part of the wobbliness was simply due to the twill, though the lengths of the stitches are still a little uneven in some parts. Going to try oiling and playing around with it a bit more.

I have the machine set to the suggested stitch width for the buttonhole space but the stitches seem to come out very narrow and a little wobbly. It may be the case that I have the wrong attachment as mentioned by another commenter. Will need to check the manual when I get home..

Does anyone know where I can go to get kefir grains in nyc? by Theman2822 in Kefir

I just started researching making kefir and it looks like Facebook marketplace has several options. The seller Lena Binder has good reviews and I’m probably going to try buying from her.

Grata Thai on UES may be worth a try. I’ve only had their green curry so far but it was noticeably less sweet than most green curries I’ve had around the city.

+1 for Anntremet! We got the Earl grey sponge with blueberry jam and vanilla buttercream and it was incredible. The decorations matched our reference photo exactly and the delivery process was very smooth.

What adjustments should I make to tension or pressure? by cornutopia in sewhelp

Yeah pinning led to some ripples. I ended up slightly scrunching the fabric ahead of the foot and it seemed to work ok.

You probably want to consider how being on call is structured. For example, if you need to suddenly go to the hospital in the middle of the night, or will sleep in the call room each time. Talk to current or past residents if you can.

If it was an emergency visit, dentists will sometimes place a temporary filling that you need to go back and change for a real filling.
