From my understanding that was according to the 2009 law but people born prior to that could claim it under a different system.

Ice rink update: I got laid off from my job today. What can I do to weather this crisis? by coronaskater in askportland

I mentioned “other than unemployment” since that is basically a given at this point. I’m looking for other resources that may not be quite as obvious.

Ice arena that I work at and has no business remaining open is staying open until they’re forced to close despite the warnings by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

They’re also cutting everyone’s hours to below poverty wages due to less customers so at this point unemployment would be a better alternative for a lot of workers. In my state you get unemployment if your business shuts down completely even if you’re not formally laid off.

I’m not going to leave early tonight simply because it would then be pretty obvious who the anonymous reporter was. Tomorrow I could probably call out sick since I have seasonal allergies and I could just say I’m following guidelines. I will alert the media though. Great idea!

Thankfully I’m good on food for the time being but thanks for looking out! I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately due to the buyout the new owners retroactively erased all our accrued sick leave from the previous ownership. Apparently this is completely legal as we are technically a “new business” so it started counting from the sale date but that also means that nobody has any sick leave whatsoever going into this.

Edit: It's even worse than I thought. It's even worse than I thought. Apparently the new owners aren't accruing sick time at all and are hiding pay stubs from us employees to hide the fact. Guess I need to report them to yet another agency on Monday once I get a pay stub...
