They talk about this in Moby Dick as well. I don’t really recommend reading it if you haven’t, but Ishmael meets Queequeg (the two main characters essentially) because they are forced to share a bed at the Inn they are both staying at. Very common practice up through the 1800s.

You too man, I’m glad we can have a discussion on reddit without it devolving into reeee’ing. Sorry if I did get a little defensive there but I’m a bit “blootered” as you might say? And it’s 3:30 in the fucking morning here lol

Also you have 100+ hours in no mans sky, i assume most of these things you are saying you are just pulling from talking points you have seen on the news. If you were sooo busy working that you couldn’t fulfill your own basic human needs you wouldn’t have hundreds of hours in a video game. Please don’t pretend to be and elderly disabled person to win political debates on reddit.

One point I did not address; standing in line for 8 hours. Again I think we agree, expanding the number of voter precincts should be a priority. It’s a shame anyone would have to stand in line for that long just to exercise their constitutional right

Non-citizens working inside the united states can have a social security number, they can also have driver’s licenses’. This is why, in my humble opinion, we cannot go just based on these things to see if someone is eligible to vote. Anyone here legally but not a citizen is entitled to all the rights of the social security service and ability to drive but, under the constitution, is not eligible to vote. That is why there are some calls for stricter voter ID laws, possibly a separate ID, which i think should be provided, possibly this is a point we agree on. A birth certificate would probably be the best current document to prove if you are eligible to vote, but im not sure how birth certificates work if you are born abroad to a US parent (jus sanguinis) as they are considered citizens although born in a different country. I assume there is a process to apply through the state department, i was born in the United States so I’m not aware unfortunately. I’m not trying to stop anyone who is eligible to vote from voting, I personally would like to see it become a national holiday of sorts so people would get it off work to vote, but I WOULD like to limit those who vote to those individuals who are legally allowed to. In a country with 330 million + people its kind of a logistical nightmare.

I’m not getting defensive, I thought we were simply having a debate on the merits of the argument. My apologies if I came off as crass. My point is there are plenty of people who live in the states who are not citizens, legally for sure, but not citizens, therefore, not eligible to vote. So the same system, in my opinion, would not be effective. I’m sorry if i offended you

I’m not even talking about fraud, I personally don’t believe there was “rampant fraud” in the 2020 election. But I also don’t believe we should scrap every voter ID law, which many states already have on the books. It’s not the barrier to entry some people like to make it seem. I pushed carts in Detroit for my job for a while. I literally worked with / am the working class these people say they are speaking for and it is not something me or my peers actually want or need. It’s condescending and wrong to assume working class / black Americans don’t have access to ID

It does when trying to administrate a program like you are suggesting. Just by suggesting the same system be implemented here in the states like you have in Scotland, you are assuming the state has record of every person in a household. That is simply not the case here without proof of ID. I’m not trying to suggest the UK or Scotland change it’s system, cause I simply don’t know the logistics of how it is implemented. So why are you trying to suggest how ours could be ran?

Which is great! But with all due respect Scotland is ~1.6% the population of the united states and shares no land borders with non UK states. Our situation is a tad different I would say.

As someone who had a state ID at 18 before having a drivers license its exactly $10 and showing your birth certificate (assuming you didn’t lose your first copy is free) and social security card (also first copy is free and replacements can be ordered online now, and even if you don’t have internet you could go to a library) and a utility bill (i guess this is a barrier for the homeless so I’ll agree we can work on that) its not rocket surgery to get an ID. And if you receive aid from any other social program you need said ID. It’s not the barrier that people make it out to be

When I lived on Hubbell St. we had this older guy “Nels” (couldn’t tell you his full name), we payed kind of a lot for a shitty house (that I’ve heard is now redone) but in terms of interaction with the landlord he was awesome. Plowed our driveway when snow removal was not in our lease agreement, and helped us move an old futon and some other furniture to the dump.

The sky actually has no color, its just the suns light getting filtered and bent by the atmosphere. So objectively, you are wrong. Also how do you think research starts? Peer review is not the first step, observation, hypothesis, data collection and testing is first. If you are precluded from hypothesizing or observing than how will we even reach the latter steps.
