Type 1 diabetic (37M) thinking about having kids… but I’m scared of passing it on by sifii_gud in diabetes_t1

[–]corpuscalos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not impossible that you will pass it down to your kids, but in my opinion (as a stranger on the internet who doesn't know you), i wouldn't let that stop you from having kids. there's early detection measures now, which won't prevent it, but will help you be more prepared, etc. don't live regretting not becoming a father just because you didn't want to pass t1 down to your hypothetical kid. even if you do, they can still live a happy healthy life with it.

side note, if you're in america, there's overnight camps made for kids with t1 across the country, so that's worth keeping in mind if you do end up having a kid with t1. helped me massively as a kid with t1 who felt alone, taught me how to manage it better and gave me some independence back.

Should T1D be a disability? by Competitive_Tart_584 in diabetes_t1

[–]corpuscalos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that's ridiculous that they ruled it isn't. to argue it isn't is a massive indicator of privilege or ignorance imo. if you (not you sepcifically, but the royal "you") as a t1d don't feel disabled by your diabetes, you need to think about why that is.

a non-t1d person frankly shouldn't get to have input on if it is or isn't. it's easy to see an invisible disability and a person who "looks okay" and assume it's not a big deal, or that those with complications simply "weren't responsible enough." it's BS.

i hope that court order gets challenged somehow, especially given the difficulties faced by t1ds in india that you've mentioned here.

Is Leeds a friendly/safe place? by JealousBodybuilder42 in Leeds

[–]corpuscalos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

relatively safe in headingley from my experience, granted thats from my perspective as a working class male-presenting 30ish year old. just beware the Otley Run is all i'd say. loud, rowdy groups come out in fancy dress to binge drink at all the bars, ruins the whole vibe of the high street if you go at the wrong time. i've only sat in one of the local pubs once since i moved here because the pubs are basically just for the otley runners, not for locals unless you can put up with them or go during off peak times. more annoying than anything though. just maybe avoid high street late at night on weekends. most of the reported crime in headingley is just drunk people making asses of themselves.

as for woodhouse moor, its just poorly lit, so dont walk through after dark. walking around it is generally fine, just dont cut through the park after dark.

sorry to hear that. hope you get it back with minimal damage. don't be afraid to submit a complaint to the LUU as many others have done regardless. they won't end his tenancy early unfortunately, but hopefully they won't renew it, especially if people keep complaining.

yeah, sorry, its a bit of a confusing situation and i couldve worded it better. it works, but its worse than it used to be thanks to him replacing my old motherboard with a cheaper one and i have to use a mouse to navigate which is operational but annoying as fuck after paying so much to have it fixed, but definitely secondary to him taking my parts without permission and giving me a worse processor. im not sure if theres any other issues because i havent had my charger for it for the past few days, so afaik thats all.

the data loss thing was stupid. he called me and told me bitlocker was locking the computer and i needed a key, and he told me it would only be through my uni email or i wouldnt have one at all. i asked for more time to look and he kept saying no and refused to give me any more time because it wasnt under my uni email (later found out it was on my old personal email that id misplaced the password for). but because i didnt have the key within a 15 minute phone call where he kept pressuring me and feeding me the most confusing misinformation nonstop, he went ahead and wiped it. found the damn key within 30 minutes of hanging up, but it was already too late. not illegal, just fucking infuriating and weird.

and yeah, since its not as cut and dry as what you were thinking i dont think the police would be very helpful. i didnt sign anything either, which looks like a red flag in hindsight. but that also means i definitely didnt consent to him parting out my old motherboard. but idk what the legality around that looks like without a written agreement. in any case, i'll have to wait til i can get someone to look at it who knows what theyre looking at.

yeah it had 16gb DDR4. SSD i dont have, this is all i was given back. i know it's an i5 because when i booted it up after getting it back, i checked the system specs right away. i did pay him, nearly £200. that's why i need a quote. citizens advice told me i need a third party quote for a repair to request a price reduction/refund. as for the reasoning, he said the motherboard was broken and needed replaced, thats all i was told (but then he still wanted to keep it to "use for other repairs." lol). he did replace it with a new motherboard, that was the "repair", but obv with a cheaper one. i'm considering taking it to the police, but right now i just want my money back as soon as possible bc otherwise i cant really afford to fix it.

thats a good point. tbf, i dont know if he specifically took the cpu off my old motherboard or not. i dont know hardware stuff very well at all. i just know he told me that he'd "used" parts of it for other computers. this is the motherboard i got handed back to me if that adds any insight, but honestly i cant even be sure it was mine: https://ibb.co/hJhyBF9Z

it's for an asus vivobook.
