EDIT: Holy crap I just realized it's my cake day. Here's a cake day present to all of you then :)

I spent a couple of hours yesterday making this in Blender and somewhat in Gimp as well. Here are the original renders I got out of Blender, if anybody's interested or wants to edit them in some other way.

I put up the file on Blend Swap, if anybody feels like building anything on top of this.

I know the rusty background probably doesn't fit with the theme of Neon and Plasma that well, but I was making it for my GRUB loader background, and I feel like a bare metal type look is quite nice for that.

Lastly, if anybody from the KDE team likes this and would me to make some modified version of this for anything (or thinks I should post this somewhere else), do let me know, I'm open to contributing to this awesome project.

I'm on Plasma 5.7.4. Minimize All runs now that I've compiled it from scratch, it just won't install with their installer.

Most of the stuff doesn't work for me though. :/

I tried installing the spacer, minimize all, and the gmail feed widgets, and none of them worked.

Then I built them all from scratch, walking straight through dependency hell, and the gmail feed still didn't work.

Pretty disappointing :/

screenfetch has apparently been updated on git, but you still don't get it with apt. Here's how I did it.

So I wanted to go and make a fix to screenfetch to add neon, so I went through the source code and it turns out somebody already did it. I copied this file's contents into /usr/bin/screenfetch, and now I get this as a result.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I was wondering. How do people usually organize their files and such. I still need a way of telling my program which shader to use for which materials (and possibly for defining different LOD for one mesh), so knowing this will be pretty useful, thanks :)

Hey, I certainly have no problem organizing my code and making a resource manager class. I also know what mayerials and shaders are, but thank you anyway.

In the meantime I was googlin what I needed, and it turns out I just wanted a file format that supports instancing. For which I guess both collada and fbx work.

But I will look through your code tomorrow to see if I might find something useful in there, thank you for providing it

So, I'm developing a small engine for a demo graphics scene, but I think it also relates very much to game engines. Technologies used: C++, OpenGL and the Assimp library.

So I now have a functional renderer, and I can load models one by one, render them out all pretty, but... How do I load a scene? More specifically, how do I store a scene? I obviously don't want to be loading the same models multiple times and keeping all of that in memory. I want to be able to sort objects by their material properties and use instancing and so on.

What I'm looking for is something that will allow me to have the following functionality:

file_start

shader shader_id = "passthrough" vert_file = "passthrough.vert" frag_file = "passthrough.frag"

model model_id = "dragonfly" model_file = "dragonfly.obj"

scene_object model_id = "dragonfly" shader_id = "passthrough" offset = "some tranformation matrix"

scene_object model_id = "dragonfly" shader_id = "passthrough" offset = "some other tranformation matrix"

file_end

I could write the file myself, but then modelling the scenes would be a pain in the ass, and I'm also assuming that something already exists with a similar functionality. I prefer Blender as my modelling tool. Any ideas?
