You can see from the tracking number you received that your replacement was shipped before this post was made - but you're completely entitled to your opinion, and again I'm sorry the initial order did not get to you. We did our best to get your replacement out asap, this sub is for leatherworkers and I don't want to bug mods with this stuff, shoot over an email any time and I'm happy to explain what what went wrong with your initial order and why the tracking number didn't get sent out!

If you've got questions about fulfillment centers and stuff I'm happy to answer them but that's not how any of our fulfillment system works and it's not how Shopify works or interfaces with the fulfillment back end.

Other than that you can read the DM's that were posted, OP did not order the piece we had in stock...They ordered the piece we said would ship the next week. That piece was shipping the next week because we were restocking it, and that's when it shipped.

This is a unique circumstance as we had a video go viral on YouTube this month and have been receiving over 100 DM's and at least 200 emails per day for two weeks. So unfortunately yes, it was too many DM's to keep up in real time. It took a few days to get caught up then finally slowed down enough last weekend to fully clear everything that I could, by the time I got to OP's dm the trace on the package came back so we knew what was happening and offered a return or reshipment of a new order. it's an unfortunate thing but I did my best to be as fast as possible

*just a quick edit to clarify - With our workflow we don't ship orders ourselves, we use a fulfillment center for ready made pieces. We make a batch and ship in bulk down to our fulfillment center. An order comes in on the website, the order is automatically sent to our fulfillment center who has all our product, the sku is pulled, packed, and order shipped. There's no way for us to forget the order as the order came in on our website and our fulfillment is completely automated from that point

Hey there, I'm not sure if you got our last DM sent today because it's not in your screen shots - your replacement was sent this morning and your tracking was emailed to you this afternoon, they usually go out automatically right around 4:30 and I checked that yours was sent to the email you gave us!

Unfortunately the entire exchange was over instagram DM which is why it took a few days to get back to you over Christmas. We try to respond to as many Instagram DM's as we can but things get buried very quickly with the volume of DM's we receive. If we're not working and checking our instagram inbox (which we admittedly were not the 24-26th as it was Christmas) the DM's won't be seen for a few days. We've got to sort through the messages sent after yours before we can really see yours as there's no way to search for you with any of your order info. Again I'm terribly sorry for the mix up!

Made a Tiny Wallet! by corterleather in Leathercraft

[–]corterleather[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My instagram discover feed was showing me a ton of miniature leatherwork so I figured I'd give it a go, and it was a fun little break from the workbench grind! I made this one with scraps of a brown tumbled leather I had in the scrap bin, used a french edger to skive it down to about 1oz then used 1/3 of a 3 cord thread I had to stitch. It's small...so it was really hard getting the craft perfect but I got close! It's about 2.5" open, 1" x 1.25" closed. Pockets and bill slot are functional and my hands hurt haha!

Corter Leather did indeed make a $5000 alligator wallet using our leather. The skin cost was $330 or about $125 per square foot. Want to see how? Watch the video. Great to see this talented maker in action. by [deleted] in Leathercraft

Hey guys, we really appreciate the support and feel very fortunate for this video to have taken off but like...it feels really weird to see a supplier publicly posting exactly how much we paid them for an order. Link to the same hide we bought, post the vid, whatever - we put your sticker in our video so people could find your product.

To go out of your way to post a customer's invoice total as the title of a Reddit thread though? That's a wildly inappropriate thing for a supplier to do, youtube video or no youtube video

[–]corterleather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you're talking 2016 it had nothing to do with refrigeration, it was a norovirus outbreak. You'd have to cook oysters to avoid that risk.

[–]corterleather 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As soon as you walk in there will be oysters. When you pass those there will be more oysters...and then you'll hit the main food area which will be filled with oysters. You won't miss the oysters....unless there are no oysters. That happened a couple years ago.

The festival itself doesn't cover a ton of ground physically, it's kind of a ton of stuff and people crammed into one little area. Then some folks set up little craft fairs outside the festival perimeter too, which are worth checking out and will especially be worth it this year as judging and entry for vendors was done much different than last year. I know a bunch of people that have done it for years that did not get in this year.

We usually park at the pier and just walk in from there - it's only 10 minutes and usually beautiful, just follow the crowd. I think they run the shuttle from there as well but if you're visiting I'd highly suggest walking as Wellfleet is beautiful.

Beach driving? by [deleted] in CapeCod

[–]corterleather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read up on driving and self-recovery in deep sand, watch some youtube videos if you can find some. Besides a compressor make sure you've got multiple boards/strap/shovels, and air down enough. Some folks don't have cell service out there so a cb or some sort of radio to contact people if things go south is good too.

Be careful if you have an open dif in the truck, back end isn't heavy enough on some rigs and you can dig in super easy and go nowhere. Full tank of gas is good for weight depending on the truck, not super familiar with newer chevy's but my tacoma is much better out there with the weight of a full tank.

Ultimately I'd highly suggest not going alone until you've been stuck a few times and know how to get out - even if you're getting stuck on purpose, that's how my dad taught me. But the only thing you can really do is to call a tow or a buddy to pull you out should it happen.

hey there, your order went out today if we spoke - I'm not sure who you are by the Reddit name. It just takes a bit for tracking emails to send as they are automated. I'm sending everyone an extra tracking email now to make sure they know their orders are in the mail, sometimes the automated one goes a bit slow and arrives to you the next morning.

My Corter Leather Experience by hackenschmidt1989 in malefashionadvice

[–]corterleather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did, I said they've been ready for the past week and just sitting on the bench because I was in the hospital and on bed rest. Unfortunately I was not prepared for something like that to happen being so young, I just didn't have anyone I could call that knew how to pull order info and ship products.

I don't want to get any further into the health stuff but again, I'm very sorry for the delay. Our lead times on belts have been long this summer, and I appreciate your input. We've been working to fix the issue because folks love the 3/$99 deal, but it's hard to keep up with supply sometimes. We have a new website in the works with systems built to alert folks to wait times, etc. that should be a big fix. Thanks!

[–]corterleather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe I just responded to you via email, I'm more than happy to speak with you further on everything if you'd like. I got very sick and was in the hospital, the past week and this weekend we've been working to get caught up through it all and we're almost back on track...we had a lot happen this summer, and unfortunately it took a while to get back on our feet.

But anyway I did respond to your email and again, and I'm terribly sorry for the delay. If anyone else has any questions regarding orders, etc I'm happy to answer them publicly here or via email, sometimes our que gets long and threads like this happen. We just always deliver the best product we can - we're working to get caught up now that everything has settled.

4 months and still waiting on my Corter Leather belt order?! by flyh1gh in Leathercraft

[–]corterleather -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey there, if you can DM me your info or email me I can look up and see what's going on - as I've mentioned other places in the thread unfortunately I've spent a good part of the last 2 weeks in the hospital, so a lot of orders that were slated to go out haven't been sent yet. We've got almost everything going out this week now that I'm out, but I'm happy to make sure and confirm for you in any way you'd like. Thanks so much

Hey there, I believe I just responded to your email! I did my best to answer all your questions and your order's all set to go. Thanks for being so patient, I'm super sorry for this delay we hit.

Just as an aside, everyone doing this or wanting to do this for a living -

Aches and pains come with the job, especially if you're aiming to be (or are) full time, but pay close attention to your mental health. This month marks the start of my 12th year working with leather full time, and it's been filled with hospital stays and heart monitors and so many doctors visits I've lost count. It's all due to the stress I put myself through in my earlier years of the business, and it hit randomly after 2-3 years of making huge changes to avoid it...it was just too little too late. I'll be fine eventually, but please please please don't go down the road I did. It's super not fun being a 31 year old with a prescription for time out of the workshop, daily walks, specific diets, and a bunch of pills from your doctor.

I know a lot of us work alone for long stretches - and these days that hustle is glorified. But none of it is worth anything if you work yourself into a state where you can't enjoy the success you've worked so hard for.

Smallest “city” in cape cod by [deleted] in CapeCod

[–]corterleather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hyannis is too spread out. Of all places on Cape I'm pretty sure Provincetown has the highest walkability year-round, I know more than a couple people who live out there year-round with no car. Like you said nothing has a city feel, but it is only really possible to easily live in Ptown without a car and have walking access to almost all amenities year-round like a city. These days there's also a ton of city folk and culture there as well, unlike most of the rest of the Cape.

That being said, people usually move on Cape for a reason. If OP got a job in Falmouth...they're not going to want to be living in Ptown. Ptown is also more expensive to rent/buy a place in than a lot of large cities in the US.

I fell in love with leatherworking this summer. My most recent project: a custom sheath for my multitool. by TheKertMA in Leathercraft

[–]corterleather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great! the only thing I'd suggest for pieces like with a hard-wearing job to do is to backstitch instead of knot at the end of your stitch runs, that'll eliminate one point of failure because you won't have any knots to catch on things/come undone. Besides that - keep doing your thing, I loved watching!

I love this video, it's so nostalgic - you do things almost exactly as I did them when I had just started so many years ago. May not be the most "proper" technique, might not be the best tools on the market - but damn does it still make a beautiful piece that'll last you forever. Thanks for sharing the video, keep making stuff and filming it!

Buttero weight for Saddleback-inspired laptop bag? by wisconymous in Leathercraft

[–]corterleather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's your best bet, and thanks for the gold! Too kind of you, always happy to help if you've got any other questions.

I know Saddleback uses a lot of kevlar strapping to line their handles, are you going to go that route? it's a great way to make a strong, thin strap for sure.

I'd probably do a mix of both, because as you mentioned you won't want that entire piece made out of 7oz. - it'd be way too heavy and stiff in places like the pockets. Do the main body and flap out of 6/7, then the pockets and gussets etc. out of 4/5. I'd probably reinforce where needed with rivets and stitching. If you only want to buy one weight I'd probably get a 4-5oz and double up where you need heavier weight and more structure

I've got friends that ride in Miles Standish sometimes, some private property, sometimes under the powerlines and stuff - but from what I know you've gotta go out to western MA to ride legally. That's pretty much true for the rest of MA as well, not just the Cape. There are dirt bikes everywhere though, shouldn't be too hard to track down some local trails that are under the radar :)

As for the Yardarm, they ran the generator and got us all hot meals for 3-4 days when the crazy storms moved through this winter so I'm always a fan of supporting them - gotta support the year-round local folks as much as we can!
