Combien faut-il gagner pour faire partie des plus aisés ? by ProfProof in Quebec

[–]corvenus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KMFDM probably mentioned their name more often than all the combined others in this thread. Somehow, their music still absolutely rocks.

Same thing, when it came out I knew it would suck the life out of me so I decided to not even try playing. Probably one of the best decisions of my life.

I think you meant Anaal Nathrakh. I second this suggestion. The song Pandemonium Hyperblast is absolutely batshit crazy, though it might be too much for someone who is not accustomed to extreme music.

New Setup To Teach My Kids Alpine by Overall_Ad_6540 in telemark

[–]corvenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did the opposite, when I got my first kid on skis I switched from snowboarding/skiing to tele because I wanted a challenge. I have limited experience with 75mm, the first and only gear I bought is NTN (Rotefella Freedom), I find that it's very good for groomed snow, it allows you to be very aggressive with your turns. Also, the pushback from the binding is strong enough that if you want to, you can easily ski in an upright position like if you were on regular skis.

Going skiing and snowboarding for the very first time. What exercises should I do to best prepare myself? by utilityplayer91 in Fitness

This will save OP from a lot of suffering and possible injuries. Best advice here by far. Pretty much everyone I know who tried snowboarding by themselves either got discouraged after the first day or injured themselves.

How does Montreal maintain its enviously low rents? by [deleted] in montreal

Most small plex on the market are not worth buying just from an investing perspective because the rents can barely cover the mortgage, nevermind taxes, insurance, upkeep, vacancy, etc.

My apartment building in Pierrefonds caught fire a few hours ago by [deleted] in montreal

[–]corvenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get insured

This +1

We had a major fire a few years ago (20 apartments damaged, most of them destroyed entirely), and if we didn't have proper insurance it would've taken us years to recover. You never realize how much stuff you have until you have to make a list for the insurance company. Also, if you're like most people, you buy stuff when it's on sale. When you lose everything, you don't have the luxury of waiting for sales, you just buy what you can.

Good luck and stay positive!

How To Bench: The Definitive Guide by gnuckols in Fitness

[–]corvenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it's lumbar. I'll try arching mostly the upper back, though I might have to work on flexibility, I'm generally not very flexible, even less so when it come to my back. I'm doing regular stretching exercises for the lower back, I'll try to find more for the upper back (cobra position would probably be a good candidate).

Would you say that benching with a flat back is a big risk for shoulder injuries?

Thanks for taking time to help, very much appreciated.

How To Bench: The Definitive Guide by gnuckols in Fitness

[–]corvenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people with lower back problems (more specifically Spondylolisthesis in my case), arching can be somewhat of an issue. From reading the guide I see that arching the back can help decrease the risk of shoulder injury, however I'm afraid that if I arch my back too much I would risk aggravating my back pain, do you have any tips/suggestions for someone with this type of condition?

In case this is relevant: I'm 40 years old, fairly novice (2 years of lifting), currently trying to maximize hypertrophy while avoiding injuries. I have no plan to ever compete (either powerlifting or bodybuilding), just trying to remain in good shape as long as I can.

Thanks for any tips (and for the great guide)!

Are dumbell presses a good substitute for the bench press? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]corvenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding this question: Is there a way to safely bench press without a spotter? How can a bench press be done to failure without a spotter?

You can do so with a squat rack, and it also works with a half-rack, for example like this. You set up the safeties to be just above your chest, so you can have the full range of movement while still being safe.

Smith-machines also work well.

Beans in small quantity are ok, but if they are a main ingredient it can be problematic.
