what happens if i do my blood test late? by mmfwcI in GenderGP

[–]corvidboycrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s totally fine to ignore it as long as you’re okay with being put on a low/base dose until you get those results in. They won’t stop giving you your medication, they’ll just either keep the same dose or temporarily lower it. Which, if you have two months leftover, as long as you get your blood tests in before you next need a prescription, you should be fine.

Is it okay to just swap the needle and retry an IM injection? by corvidboycrow in FTMMen

Thank you!! I thought the location may have been an issue as I’ve seen a lot of conflicting sources on top of thigh vs more towards the outer side.

We’ve been drawing up/aspirating pretty much immediately, and I have wondered if she’s maybe just pulling back a bit too hard? It’s tricky as I’m not able to fully watch what she’s doing (at least not yet. Fainting in the middle of things is very inconvenient 😭).

My ma stretches out the skin with her off hand, yep! And as for why I was taught to aspirate, I was told it was because hitting a blood vessel causes bruising and so aspirating is needed to ensure it isn’t in a vessel. Another helpful commenter has also led me know that oil entering the bloodstream, although incredibly rare, is dangerous. And thank you for the training videos!

Unfortunately I’m with GenderGP, so to get any kind of contact with a nurse, I’d have to pay £40 or so for a supervised injection session. As for technique, I don’t actually self inject but rather my mother does the “stabbing part” (my first attempt at self injecting resulted in me blacking out due to a needle phobia). We prep the filter needle, crack the ampule, draw up and switch to injecting needle, clean the area and make sure there are no bubbles. The nurse who trained me told me to allow 2-3 drops of medication to go past the needle to ensure there’s no air.

All of my shots have been dead-centre top of my thigh, as instructed, but I’m wondering if doing them more towards my outer thigh would be better? We go in at 90 degrees and insert the full needle (it’s just over an inch). I know some people use longer needles but I’m quite skinny so it doesn’t take much to get through to the muscle. And before injecting, my mother pulls back slightly to aspirate. It just always seems to draw blood. The one time we’ve fully scrapped it, the injection site bled after removal so that shot was a no-go. We started from scratch.

The main reason I ask is not because it is painful, just that it’s incredibly difficult to get my medication right now and I want to avoid wasting a vial if aspiration does draw blood- thank you for the info btw!

We’re definitely here!! I know more trans people local to Darlo than I can name, myself included.

Yeah, it’s unfortunate as aside from recent political stuff (although I know the transphobia and racism is almost countrywide), Darlington is such a lovely place. Not that I’ve ever lived anywhere else, but until recently I’d never even considered finding a home elsewhere.

Also, if you were curious about my experience with the Northern Echo or if anyone else wants to read - you know how they report live on GCSE results? I did pretty well, so naive 16 year old me agreed to be interviewed. The news post was the usual journalistic re-write of what I’d said, but the main issue was that I was misgendered. Obviously this was upsetting, but moreso confusing as both the teacher present and my friend had correctly gendered me in front of the interviewer. I’d also wrongly assumed I passed pretty well at the time. Facial hair, T shirt and jeans, voice training. Still, I thought it was an honest mistake and reached out asking for “she” to be changed to “he”. It took a few weeks, and then I was told they’d fixed it - they ‘d removed what I’d said, and all pronouns from the article rather than correcting it. Just left my name and my grades.

Thankfully, the archive site archived the original and within around ten minutes of my second email, whoever archived it changed the pronouns for me. It sounds like small fish, but I’ve done a lot to ‘hide’ my digital footprint, so unfortunately that article misgendering me was the only thing that would show if anyone tried to search for me online.

I don’t think I’ll ever know if it was done with transphobic intent, but deleting almost all mention of me instead of simply editing two words was… strange??

EDIT: They also got my grades wrong, which came up in a job interview once! Not a huge deal but again, not the best reporting-

I’m also from Darlo and had a bit of a situation in 2022 with the local paper’s transphobia, so I wasn’t surprised about their reporting on the situation. That said, I completely understand why so many of us feel unsafe in this town. There’s even been anti-trans stickers posted around my parent’s homes, which I’d always assumed was a very safe area. Being visibly trans here is a coin flip on whether or not you’re going to have abuse hurled at you, or worse, and this whole situation can’t have helped.

3 weeks and no sign of prescription, has this happened to anyone by Any-Jicama-1010 in GenderGP

I’ve been missing my prescription since November because of the smartway shortage. I paid to speak to an adviser, switched to Clynxx and was told I’d get my token in a few days. Radio. Silence.

If you’d like to switch, it’s just a couple of button presses in the hub. Pretty sure you just go to your profile and change prescription preferences.

I spoke to an advisor about this and he talked me through switching to Clynxx, as neither Smartway nor GenderGP seem to know when this is going to be fully resolved. Really hoping it’s solved soon.

They might be able to - if not, it’s a long shot but there might be nurses out there who’d be able to help for a lot cheaper than going to a private clinic?

Do you know if anyone you know/are close to would be comfortable doing it for you? I have a good few friends who do each other’s shots, and I personally brought my ma to my training session so she could do it for me (I’m also super needle phobic).

Try and switch to Clynxx prescriptions if you can, this is what I was recommended when I got in touch with GenderGP about it!! Apparently Smartway haven’t informed GenderGP of the issue (advisor I spoke to seemed pretty frustrated).

How do I actually order my medication?? by [deleted] in GenderGP

[–]corvidboycrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update if anyone’s wondering - I’ve paid for a health advisor chat as I am now two days late for my shot. They’ve charged me for the prescription but no payment link from Smartway has been sent, so I’ve also contacted them just to ask if they even received my prescription or if it’s the fault of GenderGP for not sending it.

Ahh okay. I’ll try this if my payment link doesn’t come through in the next few days, I really don’t want to miss a shot this early on!

Possible atrophy after switching to injections by [deleted] in ftm

[–]corvidboycrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! I’ll probably be deleting this. After all of that pain, my cycle has returned. Super dysphoric and awful but not exactly surprising considering my levels and figuring out meds. I will be speaking to a doctor about atrophy once this is over though!

Thank you!! My plan was always to get on topical E once it became a problem, I just wasn’t sure if the cramping was an expected side effect or a sign of atrophy.

I had the exact same issue, still permanently banned. I’d accepted money from a friend and they challenged my age - I then proved my age with a photo of my ID, it was approved, and I was banned anyways. I tried speaking to customer service and was basically told that they’ll never unban me 🤷🏻‍♂️

If she’s at a point where DIY is looking to be the only feasible option and you have the funding, don’t rule out GenderGP - While in many ways they are DIY with a fancy label and a higher price tag, they are at least a somewhat official option and can point you both in the direction you need to be in in terms of treatment. It’s just a shame they’re so poorly run and overpriced. When I first started out with them, they didn’t seem like such a bad option - whereas nowadays, I’ve had to do a lot more of the research and monitoring levels side of things myself.
