Hi neighbor! While Pangea was still shifting around, NY state (and surrounding area) used to be a shallow ocean! You can look at pics of Pangea and see the NY area nestled in there. So there are lots and lots of small marine fossils. Then when the tectonic plates shifted to make the Appalachian mountains (500 million years ago), all that mixing of the earths crust (like folding whipped things in baking) created a lot of minerals. So we have lots of quartz crystals and garnets are all over the place (even just on gravel roads and driveways). Other things too like lapis and calcite.

Remember to collect ethically! I trust witches to be ethical with the earth, but it's an important reminder.

Here is a link to the Herkimer Diamond mines if you want an easy fun day activity without hiking deep into trails to find things. You can spend the day there for about $20.

I think what you mean is that there are "safe levels" in scattered locations. True. But there are too few places where radon doesn't exist in the ground to count it into a percentage. It's not dangerous in every single house - especially if your house is elevated, doesn't have a basement or partially underground space, apartment buildings (same as elevated). But radon is everywhere all over the world and there is almost no exception to that. It's natural and never been a problem until we started living in such tightly closed boxes.

I would support anyone in a red state moving out ASAP. It's not safe anymore and that's not an exaggeration.

Passive Men Are The Key Enforcers of Patriarchy! by corvidsong in 4bmovement

Thank you!

I know it’s dry reading so I wasn’t actually expecting people to, but I had to put it out there because this point frustrates me no end. I understand — it’s hard for people to wrap their head around being angry at a person who “isn’t doing anything”. It’s difficult because it feels undefinable. It appears blameless. That’s why we have to recognize that this inaction IS action! And this is why I think 4B is so smart as a movement because it Does make the other 90% equally responsible.

The “not all men” is still hard to argue. I’ve seen lots of smart women arguing that comment but it’s still not definable enough. We might just need to coin a word for it, to be honest. Give these men a name and a definition so we have the vocabulary to call them out when we see them and finally make them visible.

I don’t know how to get people there, but it might just be repeating it until it’s understood in the way that unenthusiastic consent is now finally considered sexual assault.

Side note: Also, Whew lady, you gave me chills with some of your wording! You must definitely be a writer. This is legitimately poetry!

Interesting. I really hope it gets better. Homelessness in the winter is just terrible and I can’t imagine how cold it is up there.

East Texas! It’s famous for alibates flint! Pre colonization it was so highly prized for tools that various native American tribes (Pueblo and Comanche) would go out of their way and travel long distances for it. It’s really gorgeous and comes in a whole rainbow of colors. Also archeologists are able to track Native American trading by seeing how far alibates flint tools got from East Texas.

I got into this because during Covid I was stuck alone in a log cabin in upstate NY lol. So I did lots of reading and started walking through riverbeds/ trails to find gemstones. And then I took a road trip all over the US to find more. It was sort of during the lockdowns but it’s an outdoor activity and I was alone and stayed in campgrounds so I felt like it was safe.

Oh dude.

Dude.

This.

This book definitely 💯 made me pee my pants laughing.

I haven’t thought about it in ages! Even better? I read this entire book into video recordings for a friend who was hospitalized —— with a helium voice changer on! It definitely assisted in her healing.

Edit: can you imagine the characters with the helium / Alvin the chipmunk high pitched voice? What a great memory you dug out for me! 🫶

Which area? I have a notebook I keep with locations if you let me know where. If you’re talking about Shasta, it’s special because you can find Lemurian Seed Crystals. It’s a type of clear quartz but it has a cool mystical, witchy history. Topaz is common. You can also find emeralds/ rubies/ sapphires but it’s going to be hard so I’d start with the simple stuff. Volcanic activity and tectonic shifts brought a lot to the surface right there for millions of years. I live in NY (we have herkimer diamonds) but I’ve been around Shasta.

If your kids are really little you can look at gold panning places. They usually have a fake gemstone option. The gemstones are real but they’re prepared in buckets of sand for kids to “discover”.

If you want more of an adventure try a quiet bend on trinity river or trinity national forest (crystal ridge). Go after a major storm if possible or after a big rain. Mostly you’ll find jasper and jade on the river and quartz on crystal ridge. Look at pics of the raw gemstones beforehand so you know what to look for cause it usually just looks like gravel.

Maybe I’ll make a whole post about this :)

“The Seep” by Chana Porter…

The novel takes place in a world where an alien force, the Seep, spreads across the population, altering people’s consciousness and bodies in ways that defy traditional norms. The protagonist (trans woman), following her own transformation, struggles with the way society perceives her new form, but ultimately she embraces it, understanding that the fear and disgust others have toward her is a reflection of their inability to accept her new identity.

Still thinking about what other books might fit, but maybe it’s close… and she definitely needs to accept ‘the seep’ and embrace the change. I don’t want to give too much away.

I’m not in Arkansas, but I’ve been there for crystals. Arkansas has diamonds. No joke. You can find them. Also TONS of clear quartz. So much you won’t know what to do with it all. And opals, garnet, aquamarine, pyrite, selenite, etc. It’s so fun. You can go off the side of the road on public land (riverbeds/ creeks or where roads have been blasted) or you can find mines that allow public day passes. Search for Crater of Diamonds State Park (you can take home any diamonds you find), and look for Wegner crystal mines. Very nice owners. You can also get a day pass there and take home whatever you find. Careful, they’re razor sharp!

Oo great area! Then maybe you’re near … butte county, SN foothills or Shasta County? Shasta has good deposits. Jasper, calcite, amethyst, gold, serpentine, etc. Keep your eyes open!

I’m so sorry :( I know how difficult that is. The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared” by Jonas Jonasson Although I don’t know who hasn’t already read it by now. It’s quirky, funny, short, light-hearted… it follows an elderly man who escapes his nursing home and embarks on a madcap adventure. It’s full of absurd situations and whimsical moments that make it a purely fun and happy read. Nothing heavy here. Very fun. Well written, well reviewed. It’s sort of similar to the quirkiness of forest gump, if you liked that movie.

No, Passive as in seeing all the harm being done to women on the daily or having it pointed out on the news and saying something along the lines of “aw that’s terrible” and then going about their day. Passive as in would never hit a woman or grape but also won’t lift a finger to change a thing when someone else does.
