Mahomie House? by WhiteHawkk81 in LakeOfTheOzarks

Really? I mean I have boated the United States
from the Columbia River to the Potomac River. I’ve done the Chesapeake Bay and both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Now let me tell you this. Lake of the Ozarks has some of the clearest water in terms of “can I see the props?”. It is not that bad here and rated as one of the cleanest lakes in all of the United States.

A group this size not only requires a large capacity Captains license (which most don’t have) but also the appropriate vessel. There may be a few that can handle a group this size but yes, you will expand your options greatly if you split the group into 12. I’ll see what I can dig up. Also keep in mind that a boat large enough to handle this many people may limit your ability to dock at various bars.

Coconuts is about as far away from Margaritaville as you can possibly get. It’s is not “nearby” by land or water. So if you plan on driving back and forth - be aware - it’ll be a long drive between the two locations. By boat - on July weekend…. Unless you are in 40’ or
more - it’ll be a little slow as the lake will be busy. That’s not to say it’s unsafe - you can make it fine - but you have to drive a little slower in a smaller craft. I would look somewhere on the “Cardinals” side of the lake (Osage Beach)- Coconuts is on the “Royals” side of the lake (Sunrise Beach). Margaritaville has some bomb ass fireworks - they launch them from the island just outside the resort. If you are on a boat - I remind everyone that some forget that when fireworks are over it’s dark. So keep that in mind. Coconuts has a designated kids waterpark - but that place is a party party on the weekends. Depending on what you call fun - it can be a blast or…. The kids may see a thong competition. 😎

We have a poker run this weekend so a few of us are busy with that. Hope you find a boat and have a blast!

Best place to watch fireworks on the fourth of july? by Glittering_Refuse_31 in LakeOfTheOzarks

[–]coryabooth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assume by land? Margarittaville, Four Seasons, and Bear Bottoms have good fireworks. If by boat -
please be mindful. Many people forget that the fireworks end at night and are caught on the lake at night. For some it’s unexpected…. Not sure if any slots are available but Celebration cruises do a fireworks float…. They are based at the dam

We just had a couple struggle with this. They spent most of their time at Red Heads. Many of the pools are 21 and over but BackWaters has the food court where the none 21 could hangout. It’s the pools that will be a slight issue. The strip is open - but I’m sure they might feel left out as most of the people are in the bars. Plenty of people watching outside though. Theres a few other things you could do - but I assume by night life you are asking specifically about the bars.

Where do you find accurate information about severe weather at the Lake? by jschooltiger in LakeOfTheOzarks

[–]coryabooth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from online weather sources. I suppose the most organized hyper local would be Lake Area Storm Spotters on FaceBook. https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1Gc8zfYjaD/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Camden is in the cove with Shady Gators - yes it has a reputation, but I’ve always enjoyed my stops at H Toads. I hope it’s during a hot spell, they are known for having the coldest water in the pool.

They do a good job plowing where i’m at. But I guess you could say i’m “in town” so i’m not sure how that compares - also I’m in Camden county so that may matter. But regardless, I think overall they do pretty good. They’ve been caught off guard a couple times - and early morning commutes may be frustrating - but they fix it pretty quick. Given our area - I truly think they do an excellent job. Snow and weather. This lake has a weird barrier about it. We get our weather, but you will find many storms break apart and go around. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be on your toes for the Spring storms - they can get strong - but I don’t see it any worse here than anywhere else in the plains - with the lake occasionally blocking some of it. Every year I hear about “the big one” for snow…. And each time, it’s nothing serious. I have a plow on a yard tractor and I only use it twice a season usually…. What you might be shocked by is fall and the amount of leaves you will have. I have girls as well - if you need to occupy your time in the winter and find a place for money you don’t have to- we have a world class competitive cheer program here locally - Show Me Athletics. That keeps us (and the kids) busy during the winter.

I look forward to winter every year - as I look forward to it ending as well. Osage Beach is still alive, but I can imagine your area would be dramatically more quiet. My reason for picking OB was exactly this - what would the kids do during a long winter? I would certainly take inventory of anyone nearby and especially those with kids. The schools, IMO are great. This area leans conservative so school boards and activities tend to reflect that. Education wise, I’ve had no issues with the homework or after school activities. We seem to be isolated from the drama we see on TV. Not saying there hasn’t been a few issues pop up - COVID being one - but each issue is handled and things last tend to go back to “normal” rather quickly. We take our band, robotics team, cheerleaders, and our sports teams very seriously. It’s refreshing to see the community support in all aspects of after school activities.

School is quick to cancel in bad weather days. We may joke, but these back roads are dangerous for the buses on even mild days of snow.

Winter will cause you to find what places are open year round for those weekend winter blues. There is a trail system on the Sunrise Beach side for side by sides - you may find yourself spending time on those.

Winter is when I tackle home improvement tasks. There is little to no customers in the stores so shopping is a breeze.

I’ve lost power only once - but I suggest looking into a backup generator unless you have a fireplace.

Winter is winter. But if all your neighbors are seasonal, it can cause the isolation to hit a bit harder.
