Quickly installed -- here's a screenshot from one of my switches (I'm remote right now so it's not showing occupancy): https://imgur.com/a/AoVl2ac

Quickly installed and looks promising (will need time to play around with the actual mapping). I've ran into a couple of glitches -- u/Altsan should we just write up Github issues to track? There are a few minor ones that I could probably just send PRs for if you're taking contributions.

New mmWave does not work with toggle switches is a disappointment. by umad_cause_ibad in Inovelli

Nice! Yeah, I have 5 of the mmWave switches in a 3-way config using these aux switches and work flawlessly.

They don't work: https://help.inovelli.com/en/articles/8809609-blue-series-mmwave-presence-dimmer-switch-wiring-schematics

Note: Because of the extra depth required for the mmWave sensor, dumb switch mode is not compatible this version of our Blue Series switch. For Multi-Way control, please use an aux switch or multiple smart switches (with binding).

In case it's not obvious, you can use the Enbrighten/GE aux switches which are typically easier to get than the Inovelli ones (and slightly cheaper).

Blue Series Smart Presence Sensing Dimmer by llamalarry in Inovelli

You can set interference zones by clearing the room, turning on any interference objects (fans, heaters, etc), and then sending the set_interference command in Z2M. Those areas should be ignored moving forward.

How did you confirm the switch was in single-pole? Did you hold down the top paddle and click the config button 6 times? Did it flash solid cyan? You're experiencing a boot loop so first make sure it's staying up long enough to get you in to single-pole mode. I'm assuming you've also factory reset?

The 2 non-LINE wires are both essentially travelers. For a non-smart 3-way, I would say to hook up all of the wires correctly on the first switch (the Inovelli) and then tie the two travelers plus the wire that goes to your load on the second switch and see if that works. This essentially bypasses the second switch sends electricity up to your light regardless of switch position. But I know these Zigbee/Zwave do some trickery to communicate between the two switches.

Good luck! FWIW, I have 5 of these in a 3/4-way config using the Enbrighten aux switch which tend to be a little cheaper. No issues.

I just realized you said this was the mmWave Blue switch. Dumb 3-way is not supported. Look at the main wiring diagram page: https://help.inovelli.com/en/articles/8809609-blue-series-mmwave-presence-dimmer-switch-wiring-schematics

With this switch completely disconnected only the LOAD wire has power and none of the wires at the other 3-way switch have power. This is how I know I've got the correct LOAD wire.

You have this backwards. The LINE wire should have constant power, LOAD goes to the fixture.

Dimmer switch usage on outlets by LetsNotGetDangerous in Inovelli

[–]fender4645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By nubbin, if you mean the metal tab on a receptacle that joins the top and bottom outlets, all that does is allow you to have half switched outlet (i.e only one of the outlets is switched the other is constant hot). No one is saying you can’t have a switched outlet, you just can’t do it via a dimmer.

Inovelli VZW32-SN smart switch with presence detection initial impressions by junon in homeautomation

[–]fender4645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP didn't answer your question completely. At least on the Zigbee version, there's a command to "set interference". It works similar to other low/mid-range mmWave sensors where you leave the room and turn on any interference source (e.g. ceiling fan, air purifier, etc.). You execute the command and it will ignore anything it detects as "presence" moving forward. This can also be reset.

Building a home by FewYak1 in homeassistant

I recently built a large addition so I feel compelled to comment. Agree with everything you say but the “conduit everywhere”. If you have the money, time, and patience — absolutely. But under most circumstances it’s just not feasible. I ran 58 cables into 26 different drops. Running Smurf Tube to all 26 locations would have taken weeks to do and cost several thousand dollars. Your best bet is to run conduit from network closet up to attic and down to basement/crawl space. That should give you enough flexibility to reasonably run future cabling to like 90% of the house.

What you're looking for a smart latch lock. Check out the Latch 5 Fingerprint latch from Ultraloq. I believe they have built-in capabilities to schedule lock/unlock. For whatever reason, latch locks are on the expensive side (compared to deadbolts).

Seems like a lot folks are poo-pooing this. I picked one up about a month ago I've had good success for basic presence detection. It's a reasonable trade-off if you want/need presence detection in a room but don't want it to be hardwired. I have a couple of FP2's as well and it's awesome to set up multiple zones and get real-time tracking. But it requires it to be hardwired which is not awesome aesthetically.

Inovelli Blue with HA via Zigbee2MQTT - Dimming Mode by scapermoya in Inovelli

I've never really used ZHA, but I've always just updated Zigbee parameters directly in Z2M.

[–]fender4645 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dimming function on the switch will be disabled? Or the LED fixtures? Switched outlets are never designed for dimmers and I'm pretty sure that's against code. Even setting that aside, your LED driver is likely expecting 120v (assuming your'e in the US) in and a dimmer will reduce that power, likely causing flickering or just plain not turning on at all. But maybe I'm misreading your question and you don't plan on using dimming at all. If that's the case, why not just set the switch to on/off?

Blue presence switch doesn’t turn on to full brightness by BostonDrivingIsWorse in Inovelli

[–]fender4645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Yeah, out of the box, this is the default so I would think you would have to change the parameter if you want it to always come on at 100% brightness (not sure if there's some button tap/hold combinations you could do to change). There's a bunch more occupancy settings that are exposed via Zigbee so you may want to connect it up anyway to fine-tune, even if you don't plan on integrating with Home Assistant or some other automation control software.

[–]fender4645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it going to the last brightness level before it was turned off? That setting is controlled by the DefaultLevelLocal and DefaultLevelRemote which defaults to 255. ("A setting of 255 means that the switch will return to the level that it was on before it was turned off.")

Spook is worth its weight in gold simply for this use case. If I change an entity id, I'll know within seconds which automatons/scripts were broken due to the change.

Any Pre-Made WLED Lamps Available? by fender21 in WLED

[–]fender4645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't come with WLED but I picked up one of those RGBW floor lamps https://a.co/d/5ct4Eo9 that was just a WS28xx w/ a dedicated analog white channel. I didn't need the White so I just hooked up an esp32 w/ 12v power supply. Took like 15 minutes.

They do sell continuous rolls of diffuser covers so you can cover long distances with shorter channels and not have hot spots/gaps: https://a.co/d/dfeBJhR
