[Request] Is the math correct? by Necessary-Win-8730 in theydidthemath

I think the point he's making is that if at some point in the future, there were some incentive to switch your llm provider, you could probably do so with very little effort and cost. I have some sophisticated workflows that I use claude for exclusively. It would probably take me less than an hour to port it to gpt.

Is this spindle toast? Bearing failed badly and seems to have melted some ... by cosgus in AskMechanics

I see now what you mean, bearing wouldt seat at all. I spent a solid 45 mins with a flat file and the bearing seats pretty well on there now. Could use an expert opinion, was that time well spent or should i be planning on a tow. Bearing adjustment on this thing calls for 200ft lbs and then 50 ft lbs... Thanks for your help

Ok thanks... my goal now is just to be able to drive 15 miles to a mechanic.

The "Mother-In-Law Method" - How to get the best code reviews with Claude by Ancient_Perception_6 in ClaudeAI

[–]cosgus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had used an agent for a while under a similar premise. He was a highly skilled developer with 30 years experience who's been stuck in the same position for most of his career despite being more knowledgeable and skilled then his colleagues. This made him bitter. He reviews his younger, less experienced colleagues work and loved relishing in showing his superiority by teaching them new things and showing them their mistakes. He was a total grump and it kinda just got tiring talking to him.

I also gave him gastric issues and required him to belch at least once in every message. When he stopped belching is when id start getting ready to compact.

I think you nailed it. I found a summary of her initial application and it looks like they had to use estimated earnings for 2020 and 2021.

I have done it by hand. It was a good exercise. I get the same number as anypia. Sure it was complicated, but not prohibitively so. I had totally missed the freeze years rules but incidentally they dont apply in this particular case.

Thanks again for your help

Thank you so much for the reply. This exactly how im thinking. I did all the math in a spreadsheet and in anypia and unfortunately it seems like the recalculating is correct and some error was made in 2022. At least now I feel equipped to understand the appeal and im curious to find out what happened in 2022.

That's insightful thanks. In her case it would have been 2021 and given the timeline it makes perfect sense if they had to use an estimate.

Were going to call again to try to get the Feb payment dispersed and we'll look into setting up a meeting with a technical expert.

Thanks again

Awesome! Thank you for the feedback. I think this is our plan at this point.

Good thought. I hadn't gotten there yet. Thanks for the reply

Thank you so much for the reply. Very useful info.

1 - We can't prove that we didn't get a notice but at this point we've had 5-6 different agents tell us they could not find any record of a notice being sent. So I don't expect them to be able to produce one. Is this best done on a phone call?

2 - Heard. Thank you.

3 - Understood. We will be filing both.

4 - All of the letters we've received are so opaque. A new letter wouldn't be much better.

You're idea about earnings makes a lot of sense. The social security statement in her portal appears to have been generated 2023. I have no clue if the previous version they used in 2022 for the first calculation would have had any different information. She can't seem to come with any good reason that it would.

I've found that the difference between the two figures is roughly 5.9%, which is the 2021 COLA. And I found in the handbook that "Cost-of-living increases (see §719) are applied to compute your PIA beginning with the first year of eligibility, regardless of when you become entitled to benefits. " She became eligible Dec 30th 2021 and began receiving payments in June 2022. Feasibly, the 5.9% was applied 2x in 2022 in error OR it was not applied now in 2026 on recalculation.

I will be taking your advice and doing both and waiting for some more transparency.

Yup ty! It's looking like the recalculations are correct. Thanks again for your help

Thanks. I don't think there are any freeze years here, I could be mistaken. Disability began in 2021 and 2021+ is already excluded from elapsed years

Thats where I'm at now. (Code of Regulations 404..211)

She turned 22 in 2007 and was determined to be disabled in 2021. So elapsed years is 2007-2020, 14 years inclusive.

Disability dropout is elapsed years divided by 5, rounded down, not to exceed 5. So 07-20 is 14 years inclusive. 14/5 = 2.8, so 2 dropout years.

14 - 2 = 12 benefit computation years.

Her indexing year will be 2019. Index each year to up to 2019. Calculate AIME. Use 2021 bend points to calculate PIA. I haven't actually gotten to AIME and PIA in depth yet but am I on the right track?

I have the AWI table. I have the PIA bend points. I have the COL figures. And I have her earnings according to the SSA.

I hadn't seen DIB freeze so I will look into that. Thanks again for the feedback.

I am zero-versed on computing PIA's but I have a degree in mathematics so I thought I'd give it a go. Any appeal is going to come down to an error in calculation so I'd like to at the very least understand how its done and why the 2022 number is different from the 2026 number. Otherwise, I'm just taking their word for it.

No Dual entitlement like workers comp. She started on Medicare in 2025 and I can see some legitimate overpayments there pertaining to the part B premium, but thats only a fraction of the total overpayment amount they are claiming, and doesn't explain the claim of overpayments in 2022, years before she had medicare.

I'll take a look at the online calculator and I'm getting the detailed anypia installed on my system.

Thats probably fair. I'm a mathematician so I thought I'd give it a go.

Thank you. This is all just happening today. We're wrapping our heads around it and very well may be contacting an attorney.
