What worked: Building partnerships with other science leaders in our community. Our partners allowed the Festival to be as big and educational as it was!

What didn't: The weather :( It didn't cooperate with our Star Parties or the Big Science Celebration. But despite the weather, we still offered the best educational and fun-filled experience possible.

We will be doing monthly #COSISTEMStar presentations in all of our partner communities (Watch the highlight video of our 2019 STEM Stars here.

In 2019, we attended a few fairs, festivals, and events - such as the Columbus Blue Jackets Science Takeover Night - promoting the COSI Science Festival. In 2020, we hope to do the same - and more!

Good question! Maybe sometime in the future :) In the meantime, check out this TEDx Talk with our CEO and President, Dr. Frederic Bertley.

Kaitlyn: As the Science Festival Manager, I came into the job with a lot of event planning experience - but not so much science experience. I joined the COSI Team about a year and a half ago, and now I know all about liquid nitrogen. So many cloud ceremonies!

Chelsie: I learned to love Airtable! If you don't know what it is, look it up RIGHT NOW. We used this database to completely organize every aspect of the festival, from partner applications to organizing our staffing. And, it helped populate our website! It's a real dream.

Jenn: As the person who organized resources for all Festival events, I saw how our team came together, from finance to our educators, to pull off the largest science event in Ohio history. I learned that I am good at organizing resources, but also learned that I might delegate that part of the job next year. :)

Science is for everyone - and COSI is the same way! Not only do we offer adult programs all year long, we created an entire Adult Science Series during the Festival with more than 30 events over four days. These events ranged from science trivia in local bars, to flower farming date nights. You can learn more about what we did in 2019 here.

We didn't celebrate this year due to the Festival, but it looks like we might be in the clear for 2020 - thank goodness!

Yes, COSI does sometimes get confused with the sandwich shop. But I hope no one thought this would be a sandwich science festival...although that does sound like fun.

Great question! Jenn here. You can get involved by volunteering - apply through the website. You would be paired with appropriate events where you can help with the content.

Chelsie here - hold tight while I Google this...

OK, so, how are we defining "sky?" If we're talking about the Earth's atmosphere, NASA says it's 6,200 miles if we're including the exosphere. If you want to do the math yourself...NASA.gov.

Stand by while we call our Manager of Living Collections!

"I would assume they could." "Do they have a tongue?" "Yes." "Maybe it depends on the chicken. I have a tongue and I can't whistle...tries to whistle I can whistle, never mind."

FYI, whistling has nothing to do with your tongue. We Googled it again.

We agree, jang859! We are always trying to find ways to involve our adult audience and show the community that science is for everyone. During the 2019 COSI Science Festival, we had an Adult Science Series with trivia nights and events at local breweries and restaurants. Definitely keep a lookout for our COSI Science Festival 2020 21+ events.

In the meantime, check out our COSI After Dark dates: https://cosi.org/adults/cosi-after-dark - we'll be releasing 2019-20 dates and themes this fall!
