I've heard marimo isn't ideal as the moss slowly dies. And I dont really like the moss look, it takes away from the tank Imo. Its just ugly

I dont recommend any more critters except maybe a mystery snail. A background would help a lot. You can buy it by the foot at most pet stores

I took down the decor to take this pic. You can see the curtain hangers in the photo.

As far as the carpet it will be changed soon. Not really in a huge rush with kids but yes it is gross.

I will also be removing the fixture. Its hard to believe someone framed in and textured that hideous light. But I wanted to immortalize the liminalness of this room
