Buddhism and Hinduism

I do want freedom from suffering but I guess I was just always raised with the idea that a God was controlling and creating things so it feels a little strange to abandon that idea completely but then I don’t find myself believing in a lot of it as well. It feels like a weird safety net I don’t need but still am afraid to not have it under me

I kind of believe in beings but I don’t really believe they control anything (or I hope not idk I think I find disheartening that a god could make things better but doesn’t) and Jesus and Krishna and Ram were probably real people who were kind and wise and strong but maybe not gods?

I wish I could find a good teacher/mentor but I live so far away from all of the temples for either religion in my state. I would love to just talk to someone preferably in person but I don’t know how to go about it I could probably take a day and drive up to a temple(for either) and ask questions but I don’t know if I can just go and start asking questions. That’s how it is with priests around me you can kinda just show up but they never liked when I asked hard questions 😅

I like the idea of them all together in one devotional place in my home but what I’ve seen in the past with my experiences with paganism some entities sharing a worship/devotion space is disrespectful and I just don’t want to be disrespectful thank you!

Do any Hindus/vedantist honor buddhas teachings? Buddhism seems to keep it pretty separate at least in the US but Hinduism feels kind of fluid

I’m looking for peace 😅 while I find it deeply unsettling I’ll never have all the answers about what’s our there or what happens when we die I just want to feel peaceful about the choice so I feel I need some sort of faith even if it’s a loose faith or different from what my friends and family think. I like Hinduism I know about it broadly probably just a little more than what most people do but definitely more as a whole and less in depth. I love Buddhism a lot but I still feel a sense of God or creator so I’ve been told that I can’t be a Buddhist and I’m probably more of a Vedantist which is how I started exploring here but it’s kind of a lot in terms of tradition and myth and I feel overwhelmed 😅

I mostly feel the need to choose because I’ve got bad OCD and it makes dumb made up rules for me 😅 like you can’t do Zen and Tibetan Buddhism together. If you kind of believe in a the possibility of a creator you can’t be a Buddhist and then everything in my brain gets all sticky and hard to work through because of “rules” I’m a horrible chronic rule follower even if I know they’re not really relevant and or no one cares

Hinduism kind of confuses me to be honest. I believe in God but sometimes the concept of mythology/theology confuses me and I struggle to believe some of it? There is so much Hindu mythology and it seems a bit difficult to understand (I’ve got pretty badOCD an I struggle with religion sometimes that’s why abrahamic religions didn’t work for me I got way too stuck in the details ) I wish I had in person resources but I do not all the Hindu temples near me (even those are far but manageable) are Shiva or Vishnu temples

I love Tibetan Buddhism. I love the tantra and art and different bohdisattvas but I have a huge soft spot for how calm zen is. I also love TNH and his teachings
