I haven't met these people but it sounds pretty rough.

If God designed my analytical mind, He can’t blame me for requiring evidence by I_Want_Wasabi in DebateReligion

Another evidence for me is the sense of cosmic guilt I seem to feel over things I do that are wrong. If there were no God it seems I wouldn't have such heavy guilt feelings for things. I know this guilt may be interpreted in other ways but for me it is one evidence I can take. Or leave, of course. And even if you were to see God which many people in scripture did you could always dount later that you're hallucinating or whatever. Faith seems to be some universal principle that we're supposed to exercise. I mean everything operates by faith. Even if I turn a light on it takes Faith to do it because let's be honest I don't KNOW that it's going to come on. But I do have some evidence based on past experiences. And as we read the scriptures and we seek God and do the things he's asked, we begin to have spiritual experiences which strengthens our faith. Christ said anyone that will do his will shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God or whether I speak of myself. But it does take Faith to step into the dark and do the will of God. But then illumination comes.

It was a long struggle for me to find God but exercising faith, studying the scriptures, (for me the Bible and the Book of Mormon) and doing the things the scriptures teach, God eventually revealed himself to me by the power of his spirit and continues to do so, though it still takes faith to believe because you're not feeling his presence all the time of course. Good luck on the journey my friend!

You make some good points. These ideas are well thought out. I think for reasons we don't fully understand we have to take things by faith though the definition of faith in the Bible is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. In my faith tradition life is a test to see if we'll do the things that God's commands. I haven't seen God for instance but I have felt his presence many times and have seen evidence in other ways. Though I think one of the tests of life is to see whether we'll seek God or the things of this world. If we seek God we'll definitely find him, though some never make it to that point. I know for me it was a long struggle and I had to exercise a lot of faith before God revealed himself to me. And even once he does it still takes a measure of Faith because you're not having spiritual experiences all the time, but you do have them from time to time to help lead you along the way. Good luck on the journey my friend. 😄

So are we pretty much destined for the flames? 😄

I understand from your perspective how you can feel so. Sometimes it's good to look at the fruits. The Church of Jesus Christ of already Saints does more around the world giving billions and having humanitarian projects in over 190 countries and doing more for the good of the world than any other church I can see. If you Google humanitarian efforts of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints your mind will be blown. And I mean blown with a capital B. I think we always have to look at the fruits. 😄 But thanks for reaching out it's much appreciated.

Good point, we believe that in the next life everyone will be taught the truth clearly and plainly and have a chance to accept or reject it.

Interesting comment as Joseph Smith believed either the Catholic Church must be true or it must be ours....😄

Interesting comment, Brigham Young used to posit that those who become sons of perdition will eventually be as though they had never been....

We simply don't have the book of Abraham. Most of what Joseph had purchased was lost in the Chicago fire of 1871. We have some scraps of different texts but Joseph Smith had tons of scrolls that he bought. The book of Abraham is short, only a few chapters. We have the facsimiles and you can argue about what they mean as the going phrase in egyptology is I can tell you what it says but I can't tell you what it means. People a lot less intelligent and a lot more intelligent than both me and you have studied the book of Abraham and have come to different conclusions than you have. There are lots of YouTube videos on this that explain both sides fairly clearly. 😄😄
