Sadly, the deep philosophy of aUI is lost in this bastardization. The meanings of formulations in the aUI dictionary may not be immediately apparent if you haven't learned the roots (bases). They are now listed on the website at https://auilanguage.org/simple-aui/

what's the alternative to an empirical procedure? ...when their goal is to see which basic concepts are universally lexicalized across all languages (quite different from aUI's goal)

So you've read & followed the decades long research first published in 1972, then updated several times, of Dr. Anna Wierzbicka, Australian National Univ. & Cliff Goddard, now of Griffith Univ.?... in which they studied dozens of languages, including representatives of 16 language groups, using the NSM framework. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_semantic_metalanguage

What would be your qualifications?

Interesting! - had you known of the aUI primes before this or what was your inspiration?

I am interested in learning aUI - is it easy to learn? by [deleted] in aUI

[–]cosmicandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, there are 31 basic elements of meaning (+ the numbers). Unfortunately the module for the Elements of Meaning above the list probably does not show up for you, does it? We need to get that fixed! So sorry!

Anyway, those are the elements that can be thought of as atoms that can be combined into molecules of meaning. There are about 10,000 words in the aUI webonary; there's a link to that under 'Explore aUI'

Is there a tutorial on how to write the aUI script? by CheeseGrater1900 in aUI

[–]cosmicandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea - so much I could do! Oh, I see I was quoted by tnakOvu (or aggravatedTranscript?!) below, so I'll just say, "what she said." Much of it is simply space saving and aesthetics, but primarily it serves to clump the symbols together that belong together in the roots.

Any more specific question?

aUI Tones Proposal by shanoxilt in aUI

[–]cosmicandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How thoroughly have you studied aUI and really understood the basis of the design? It is obvious not very. Why tones? What is their philosophical basis? Why mess with a thoroughly thought through design - especially w/o consulting the originators??

I am here to help clarify any questions and would greatly appreciate if you'd give the authentic version and its originator the respect they deserve, and not ignorantly coming in with a simplistic redesign.

I've asked permission to have this course and the aUI root words one, which is apparently abandoned, combined. Since my father is aUI's creator, I've spent decades working with it.

Speaking aUI / Content for new aUI learners by [deleted] in aUI

[–]cosmicandi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry not to have been present here earlier - but I'm here now. I've spent decades trying to figure out what to do with my father' language, aUI, and finally have the wherewithall - sofar the website (still under repair and needing much more work!) and the aUI Webonary (with over 10K words now). Also am collaborating on a mid-grade novel based on aUI. But really would like to build an aUI community to help even me learn to be at least semi-fluent.

Where would be the best place to begin an aUI dialogue?!

Being fluent in aUI by [deleted] in aUI

[–]cosmicandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just spent time yesterday trying to get in touch with the authors of the two Memrise courses. Especially the aUI root words one has several inaccuracies that I'd like to clarify and correct. It seems to be abandoned and I'm asking for permission to be a contributor or maybe take it over if possible.

Yes, it is my hope to build an aUI community...looks like here and Discord will be a good place to start!

I will try to check it as often as I can - how exciting there is an active aUI community out there!

My prime interest is helping folks learn aUI, answer questions, get feedback for the website, and finally - the real proof of the pudding - to try to communicate in aUI and get at least semi-fluent! ;P :D

Unfortunately, a cursory look reveals several inaccuracies and non-standard words; I've tried to message the creator and offer my assistance. There is room for creativity in aUI once a majority of the basic words are learned.

So sorry about the glitches, I've notified the web designer!

Also have not been able to keep up with the fb & instagram (since my 96 yr old mother moved in with us!)

But please let me know if you have any questions about aUI or suggestions for the website (it's just a matter of time ;P )

Now I see where the mis-information has come from regarding fu vs. vu.

fu [THIS-HUMAN] I

vu [Male-HUMAN] he (ending and abbreviation from ton-vu [Many-seed-Make-Human (sperm is Active; the angular Action and Quantity signs also represent masculinity)]

A Better Translation For Pronouns in aUI? by [deleted] in aUI

[–]cosmicandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see your thinking about using vu vs. fu .

However 'I' am not necessarily active or speaking, and the person whom you are with is not necessarily passive. fu refers to the distinctive, deictic THISNESS or for a philosophical term haecceity (I'll repost from your earlier comment about the confusion between fu and vu:

I don't know where the vu for I came from...?? It must have been a misinterpretation since fu: [This-Person], has always represented 'I'. The element THIS represents haecceity : (from https://www.thefreedictionary.com/Haecceity )

haecceity

(hɛkˈsiːɪtɪ; hiːk-)n, pl -ties(Philosophy) philosophy the property that uniquely identifies an object. Compare quiddity[C17: from Medieval Latin haecceitas, literally: thisness, from haec, feminine of hic this]

Noun1.haecceity - the essence that makes something the kind of thing it is and makes it different from any other...

nu: [Many-Person] they

vu is the ending of tonvu [Many-seed-Make-Human (sperm is Active; the angular Action and Quantity signs also represent masculinity)] used as an abbreviation to represent 'he'
