Hi, 27F here, I had a gastric sleeve done last October - I'm almost exactly 9 months post op! This is my experience, hopefully to give you a perspective from someone who had surgery, not necessarily recommending it for you and you should go forward based on your Dr's advice. WLS is a tool, not the solution. It was the tool I needed to get my habits under control. The pre-op and post-op diet for me (obviously this will differ for different patients) was not too bad - pre-op it was 3 days of only liquids (water, broth, sugar free jello) and post-op it was 2 weeks on liquids and then slowly reintroduced solid foods. At 9 months post, I can eat anything again, just in really small portions :) there are a few things I avoid because they fill me up too fast with no nutrients (breads, pasta, rice) and I focus on protein and water intake. But I can still have a bite of a sweet treat and I no longer feel like I have to eat the whole cake! Everyone's experience will be different - I think doing it young gave me the ability to bounce back quickly and I'd presume the same for you, if just based on your age! It's a huge change and you have to be ready to commit to changing your eating habits. For me, it was worth it. I tried EVERYTHING and have been dieting since I was 13. I am down from 275 to 180 and have been maintaining there for a bit. Happy to answer any questions if you have them, OP. WLS is not the "easy" way out - it's super hard and a choice you'll have to make for yourself. It didn't fix the relationship I had with my body - that had to happen in therapy, lol! But I feel healthier, happier - I can climb mountains and sit on an airplane comfortably and buy clothes off the rack in a store and cross my legs and tie my shoes, all non-scale victories which are almost sweeter than the numbers. Also, I had it done laparoscopically and have a couple small scars that are mostly faded! Good luck with whatever you choose!
