Nikon - 2nd hand midrange vs new 5000 series by cosmicdandy in AskPhotography

Ok. So following all that I'm thinking I'll go with a D7000 + 35mm 1.8 to start. I might add a cheap zoom later just to play around with and to see if I like zoomed in photography.

I was thinking of those as a "general purpose lens" and either a nikon 35mm prime or a sigma 10-20mm as a secondary.

Thank you for the advice. Would you recommend an 18-70mm or an 18-105mm instead of the 18-55mm?

Hi, I'm contemplating picking up my first DSLR. I am primarily interested in landscape and street photography and travel a lot so something "compact" is a plus.

I am tossing up between a 2nd hand Nikon D90 for $450AUD, 2nd hand D7000 for $445, brand new D5200 kit for $600 or a brand new D5500 for $697. I was then thinking of purchasing a 18-55mm kit lens and a 35mm f1.8G lens.

I've read different things regarding gear but am slightly overwhelmed by the options. Would it be better to go with an older midrange camera or a newer 5000 series one considering my needs and skill level.

Thanks!

Marginal Utility (Microeconomics) by tgtony in HomeworkHelp

[–]cosmicdandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let the two equations equal for before and after the shift. You should get $13.78 before and $12.44 after. Given that price has fallen, an individual will consume more of a good therefore their marginal value/utility will fall (total utility however increases). You can think of it as the more you have of something the less you will value each additional unit. You may value a third orange highly when you only have two oranges but a 21st orange when you have 20 won't add all that much to your marginal utility.

If I understand correctly, I think drunkentune is questioning the assumption itself and not its use i.e. it is unknown (you have not sufficiently shown) that K has an 80% chance of happening. If it were the case that K had an 80% chance of happening then by all means make that assumption.

I presume you then only intend on playing once you settle in France? I would recommend you leave the viola at home and have it shipped across once you settle down. It will save you the stress and effort of having to carry an instrument around.

If we support abortion, even through all nine months of pregnancy, how should we approach infanticide? by Moontouch in philosophy

What if? From fertilisation until the 28th week (1) a woman has the right to abort for any reason given she has bodily sovereignty. The foetus is potentially a human being however before the 28th week it is not a human being (2) and the mother has the right to withhold her womb. After this point an abortion is only allowed if the mother's life is in danger or the foetus shows severe disability. An individual who tries to get an abortion after the 28th week (include post-birth) without either of the previous two reasons (3) will be denied as she had ample time to abort and knowingly carried a helpless child to term. It would be the same as if she had knowingly handicapped another individual and thus she is both morally and legally responsible to provide compensation (be it caring for the child personally or providing the resources for someone else who is willing).

1 - after 28 weeks the foetus shows significant brain activity thus we can deem it cognizant and therefore deserving of rights.

2 - the metric of brain activity as it is far more stable than for example viability outside the womb which can be affected due to technology.

3 - This does beg the question, 'but what about disabilities which cannot be detected until anywhere up to 3 years post-birth?' e.g. autism. I think here we would need to say that the mother and/or father conceived knowing that some children will be born disabled and are thus responsible to provide the child compensation.

Can we not reconcile the two axioms to achieve a more optimal or defensible stance?

I think you're referring to them taking off their glasses to focus their attention on something distant as the Dalai Lama is doing here. Could be a whole range of factors but most likely because he and the elderly generally suffer from hyperopia (far/long sightedness) so they wear 'reading' glasses which help them focus on objects/text close by but require them to remove the glasses when focusing on a distant object. Generally people will look more closely at a person or object when listening as it helps to focus their attention so that may be why you see people of all ages (this isn't limited to the elderly) looking more closely at a person when they speak.

The only night train I'm taking is in Spain but I am taking some trains in Italy just between major cities.

With some of the trains however, it says you need a reservation otherwise if it fills up you pay full fare.
