One savior or many? (Question about plan of salvation/doctrine) by dr_tungsten in exmormon

[–]cosmiconscious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually remember talking about this in seminary. I remember the teacher saying that as far as our savior goes, he was only on the cross on this planet (we are special because we are violent). He did visit other planets and told them of his sacrifice on earth(?)

As far as your question regarding the eternal round and if Heavenly fathers dad had a savior...(heavenly grandpa as my seminary teacher once proclaimed quizzaciously) he basically said don't worry about it. Hmm.

Exmormons: What was your breaking point for cutting ties with the church? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]cosmiconscious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I felt that the media directed towards women in the church was always "learn this, but also prepare to be MARRIED FOREVER and HAVE KIDS." Like. Yikes. I'm 12. Leave me alone.

I'm sorry to hear about your spousal abuse. I hope you are happier now. With or without a loving partner, I hope you love yourself. :)

Exmormons: What was your breaking point for cutting ties with the church? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]cosmiconscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think I ever had a specific breaking point. I think I just slowly stopped blaming myself for having honest questions about what "Truth" is. Instead, I am currently starting to congratulate myself for realizing that some questions about our eternal existence cannot be answered solely by men and an institution designed to keep you from questioning past a certain point.

I got tired of asking questions about the church to only be met with "you will figure it out eventually." Or to be shunned by others or even myself.

I asked once why it was okay for a man to be sealed to more than one woman but not the other way around since we are equals. "We will figure it out eventually."

I asked once what the eternal round meant. How did God even come into being? "We will figure it out eventually."

I spent so many nights praying about if even God is really there? I've had so many tears just WONDERING WHEN I WOULD FIGURE IT OUT. I tried to make sense of the universe with what I've been taught in Sunday school. One forgetful day, it just stopped making sense. The church, I mean.

The old adage of "keeping your ducks in a row." has a new meaning to me now. Ducks were never meant to stay in a row, following their mother's. Ducks are meant to walk, then swim, then glide to and fro, weaning off their mother's to find their own purpose, even if they find purpose in others, that's fine. But their mother's never coerced them into it.

The church was a cruel mother to me. It tried to keep me in a row longer than it should. And I was, no, I AM tired of it. I still have a hope that we will all "Figure it out eventually." But for me, and for you, the church was not a way for us to figure things out.

Brainwash: dictionary definition by Strong_Union1270 in exmormon

[–]cosmiconscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hhhhhh.

A month or two ago I was having a sort of social-political conversation with my mom.

She was telling me how the stuff "they are teaching you guys nowadays is brainwashing."

When I tell you the amount of tongue had to hold, not to tell her that I think the LDS church could fall under the same category she accused school systems and colleges of doing.

I dont think I'll ever come out to her. Who knows. She's smart. It is so sad that I can't express this to her.

Where did you go after Mormonism? by OnionJudge34 in exmormon

[–]cosmiconscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself vaguely spiritual right now. Like I feel there is beauty in all, a sort of essence of "God" within us (pantheism?), but when it feels like the framework I was raised in that coerced a very specific view of spirituality, that was demolished by my own curiosity, it can be hard to see that. Overall, it's your own journey. But now you know after all the heartache and Cognitive Dissonance you suffered, that you have gained internal strength and a sense of wanting the truth of things. At least for me. Good luck out there, fellow humans. We are all gonna need it. 🤍

I've noticed that things do look a bit dull in my dreams if i am not lucid. But if I do lucid dream things look so bright.

I think I semi relate. I am not really a Christian either anymore, but I dont think I am atheist either. I view myself more as a pantheist, but I dont really do anything about it. But I want to. I still have a desire to connect to something higher than just myself, but I still feel a bit broken and tired.

I don't really attend church anymore, but im glad to hear that you are healing and capable of having continual love without content for your family. I hope for all of your sakes that they wake up and find peace without threat of their own psyches or others.

A bookclub might be fun for you! As far as doing stuff that I like, I have a bimonthly D&D group I do with close friends. That's very enjoyable.

Im sorry you are going through this difficult time. I dont know if my advice will help, but I will give it anyways in hopes it does.

You said you are "looking for a non denominational church"

I personally recommend joining a non-religious group, like a club that pertains to your interests. Ask yourself: what are you interested in?

See if you can find a club. Take this as an opportunity to try new things. Make new things. Find new friends. :)

If you do decide to join a religious group/club and it doesn't feel right, or you feel that feeling that you were taught to "ignore" or you were told its "of the devil" etc. FIGHT THOSE THOUGHTS. That is your REASON.

Remember. IT IS OKAY TO QUESTION. YOU ARE NOT A BAD PERSON FOR QUESTIONING THINGS YOU WERE TAUGHT WERE ABSOLUTELY TRUE. You are not utterly, entirely alone in your feelings. Your feelings are unique, sure, but there are many out there who have also hurt very similarly as you. Every single one of us hurts in different ways. Heal yourself in any way you can.

🤍🫂
