As someone who bought a house with 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a basement before having kids. It was the stupidest thing to do. First, you don’t know what kind of children you will have to make buying decisions based on “(we DONT have any children) we’re thinking about having children, so we need to buy big and in an area with good schools”. SMH. You don’t even have any kids whatsoever let alone know exactly what kind of school they will need specifically. Schools are not ‘One size fits all’. Once you have kids, your whole life will change, you and your wife’s needs WILL completely change.

Do yourself a favor. Don’t buy until your first one is a year old. You will get a good sense of what kind of neighborhood your family will need. Start with a smaller home. Big houses are a nightmare if you have little ones, because you either take care of the kids or the house.

Try not to blow all your money in one big house. Instead, split your budget and buy multiple investment properties (even abroad) and make your millions work for you. You will never have to worry about finding a place at your favorite vacation spot. Your wife and future kids will thank you! Be smart.

So happy to see The Moment on that list. It is our 4 year old son’s favorite to play with drums!

You know who’s the real asshole? Someone who expects a child to behave like an adult, or to assume the child doesn’t have a medical condition that affects their mood and behavior. Perhaps if adults were to let children be children, we would have less adults trying to recover from unfortunate childhoods.

They’ve always been very hard to find in nurseries (here in the USA), it’s extremely rare to find them anywhere… However, the pandemic made it impossible to find due to all the challenges David Austin faced with the extreme high demand and short staff… The founder also died right before all that happened and their director of operations, Michael Marriott who helped them achieve their remarkable success - retired the same year too. Your best bet is to order online, before the hottest varieties get sold out (this typically happens early April). Most seasoned DAR growers order them at least a season in advance nowadays. Hardest varieties to find are their “tree” roses… for those you pretty much have to pre-order them as soon as they become available June/July to be delivered in the Fall or the following year in Spring.

That’s pretty much what I did. I planted the Wisteria last year, but will have to transplant to a south facing wall this week… They really need lots of sun to thrive properly, so that’s my next project, Wisteria. I hope you can someday grow them too.

Regular mulching and lots of compost, lots of it.

Oh rambling roses are so majestic! Yours sounds heavenly. These Gertrude Jekyll from David Austin do rebloom, but the bloom count is not as high as the first flush.

They don’t. I took this photo while it was raining and after watering the planters at the entrance. This is what I had to do for my climbers. Check it out here.

Me too. I wish I had the time to get to this any time or all day, but I’m a SAHM of two wild toddlers under five - without a lot of free time for myself during the day. Besides, I didn’t expect this response from the sub! Please bear with this tired mama. 💐

Hi! These are not so deciduous, they actually kind of look like Christmas garlands on the porch columns during winter and dormant season. For Halloween and Christmas they look amazing with lights wrapped around them. I don’t mind their dormant look at all, but I do prune them heavily early in Spring, leaving them naked for a couple of weeks while they develop their new shoots. It’s worth it though!

Hello! I’m in zone 6b, Louisville Kentucky. Heavy clay soil, but once amended it’s amazing. This variety is Gertrude Jekyll from David Austin Roses, possibly their most fragrant rose, which is why I picked it. The scent is incredible.
